“What do you mean you’ve been watching me?” Angela spat out, furious with Diego. The rage inside of her was now completely directed at him now. She was sure it was his fault she was there.
“I’ve been trying to protect you,” he whispered desperately. “You have to believe-”
“Well you’ve done a great freaking job!” she cut him off, sarcasm dripping from her words. She strained against her bondage to prove her point.
His features softened into pity. “I had no idea this would happen. This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“So you said,” she spat at him. “So what was supposed to happen, Diego? What was the master plan here?”
“You were supposed to move on with your life and forget I existed, forget Germaine existed. You were supposed to stay safe.”
