Chapter 23: The Escape

“Get up, let’s go,” Diego told Angela again, more fiercely.

In her sleepy haze, she was having the hardest time processing what he was saying. Go? She couldn’t go. If she tried to leave, it wouldn’t end well. She knew that better than most. Germaine was ruthless. She suddenly felt wide awake and terrified. She sat up and clutched Diego’s forearms.

“He’ll kill us,” she whispered urgently. Her eyes were wide in fear.

“Not if we’re already dead,” he whispered ominously.

Angela focused on her breathing. She felt Diego lift her as gingerly as he could. She was covered up by her comforter, lying as still as she possibly could. Diego’s plan was reckless, possibly even stupid. It would be a miracle if they came out of this alive, but she tried not to focus on that. It wouldn’t help with her current need to preserve air.
