Chapter 17: The Onlooker

The sound of the bell saves Crash from explaining his fatigue. The awkward teen excuses himself and shuffles into the halls. 'Fortunately, today's gold.' He thinks with a yawn. 'I couldn't do gym today.'

Crash enters the English classroom. The teacher discusses the reading material from fall break. As the lecture continues, Crash hides behind his notebook. Due to the constant restlessness, he failed to have his homework finished.

"Mr. Wake, can you answer the question?" the teacher asks.

With a half-smile, Crash slowly emerges from his hiding place. He dreads the outcome, but there's nothing he can do except tell the truth.

"I…didn't do…any of it," his head sinks low. "I…couldn't focus."

The teacher shakes her head in a shaming way. Crash may be a quiet student. However, he typically has his work completed.

"That's a disappointment," she says monotonously. "You had a whole week to be prepared. Anyway, who 'actually' did their assignment?"
