Dungeon Exploration - Part 3

What was I going to get?

-

Purchased!

- [Random Common Ability]

~

Suddenly, another screen came up.

-

NEW Common Skill [Vampiric Scanner]

-

What on earth was this? It didn't sound like an ability which has any sort of healing capability, looks like I didn't get very lucky. I opened up the ability menu and had a look at the information beside the ability

-

Vampiric Scanner (Rarity: Common):

When you activate your ability, it scans a radius of 10 metres in every direction and you will be able to see any entity or person it detects, it will a appear as a red outline. The ability lasts two seconds and overuse with cause increasingly severe headaches.

-

Well that was certainly something. I guess it would be able to somewhat help me get out of this place. In my current state, the only way I'll survive is by avoiding any contact with monsters.

I made my way through the cave, limping and holding onto the wall. I eventually reached a split and there were several paths I could go down. Before, I would've just randomly picked one and continued on my way, but now, I needed to avoid conflict at any cost.

I pressed my forehead against the wall and activated [Vampiric Scanner], I felt a sensation travelling through the wall and the nearby area. Suddenly, the red outline of a monster appeared in the distance, flickering, before disappearing again. I wasn't able to look at it for long enough to determine what type of monster it was, however, I was able to tell that it was down the left path. I didn't notice any monsters in the other two paths so I decided to go through the right path as I assumed it might be closer to an emergency exit.

Sluggishly, I stood up straight and continued my way through the rough, rocky cave. My only indicator of civilisation were the various torches scattered across the place, giving the minimum amount of light. After I had walked about thirty metres, I decided to activate [Vampiric Scanner] once again and check around the corner.

Suddenly, the outline of a monster appeared right around the corner. I instantly held my mouth shut and stopped in place.

Crap. It's right there.

I still had some [Freeze Bolts] in my inventory but I wasn't sure if I was strong enough to be able to finish it off after freezing it. My entire body was in pain and I hardly had the strength to walk, let alone hold sword and swing it. My only other thought was to open my shop again.

-

For Sale (Refreshes every day):

[1 stat point] - 100 Vampire Tokens

[Grenade] - 3 Vampire Tokens

[Increased Blood Capacity+] - 110 Vampire Tokens

[Random Common Ability] - 50 Vampire Tokens

-

I still had nine Vampire Tokens left, I was going to buy a few grenades and blow it up as soon as I freeze it and peek around the corner. This way, I would be able to completely avoid confrontation with the monster. The only problem was that I didn't know how strong it was going to be and it could very well have an immunity to explosions.

It wasn't like there was really anything else I could do.

I bought two grenades at first and summoned them to my hand. After a little thought, I decided to use a [Freeze Bolt] first and shot it down at the corner. I then used [Vampiric Sensor] and looked at the monster again, it looked like it didn't move from the spot it previously was so I then threw both grenades around the corner and ducked behind to avoid the explosion.

I saw a splatter of blood against the wall ahead. I think the monster was now dead.

I decided to summon [Blood Blade] to my hand just in case, although I would be nearly unable to use it. Step by step, I moved ahead and looked around the corner. I saw the corpse of a very large ant before it disappeared and left some experience for me.

[+120 x 2 experience (DOUBLED)]

With that, I returned [Blood Blade] to my inventory and continued forward. I ambled my way through the cave, looking around to see if there was anything nearby. I managed to walk with relative safety. Every once in a while, when I reached a corner, I would use [Vampiric Scanner] and check my surroundings. I still had a grenade in my inventory which I could use to perform the same tactic if I saw another monster around the corner.

All of sudden, I heard faint footsteps behind me. It was a very slight tap, tap, tap noise. I turned around and saw the shining eyes of a monster behind me. It's body was far enough away so that I couldn't see it in the darkness.

Without warning, it charged at me with unbelievable speed.

Shit.

It swiped its claws at me and I moved to the side to dodge it, the sharp blades were so close to my face, I could practically feel the air gusting across my eyes. I could see its large imposing body right in front of my eyes. It looked somewhat like a fox, with orange-ish fur covering its entire body, however, it was standing on its hind legs and moved around like a human.

I had only seconds to react before it slashed at me again.

He was way too close to me for me to use either my [Freeze Bolt] or my grenade because I would likely catch myself in the collateral. My only other though was to use th flashbang I purchased a long time ago. As fast as I could, I summoned it to my hand and instantly dropped it straight towards the ground.

As soon as the flashbang left my hand, I covered my ears and jammed my eyes as shut as I could possible manage. Even with my hands over my ears, I was still struck by the sound of the explosion and there was a slight ringing noise. After the explosion, I looked up at the monster in front of me. As quick as I could, I tried to create distance between us before dropping a grenade under its feet.

It was holding its eyes in its hands and screaming manically.

The grenade blew, instantly destroying the monster.
