Chapter 39

Hugh reached for some tissue and handed it to Adam who refused to accept it. Seeing that Sleeves became so uncontrollable, Hugh let him have his moment.

He broke the silence after a while, "I know how hurtful those words are but I want you to look at the bright side of everything."

Adam shook his head. “The good thing is that my daughter is alive, but all that she has gone through. Goddddd,” Adam sniffled, trying to hold back tears. “I’m a terrible parent!”

“It’s not your fault, Mr. Sleeves.”

Adam reached for the tissue on the table, wiped his tears, then stared back at the almost worn-out portable diary on the table. It belonged to his daughter. Adam had gone through what was written on the first page. Basically, it was their daughter expressing her hatred for her birth parents for abandoning her in this cruel world, with people who have done nothing but maltreated her.
