In the gap

Elena's POV

By the window, I stood quietly staring at the moon with my arms folded for it was a cold night.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Michael asked, joining me.

His question reminded me of the curse and it only made me fidgety. Lifting my head towards the clock, I saw it was almost time.

'How could I have been so forgetful?' I thought.

"I– I have to go," I said, hurrying away.

He came in front of me.

"Did I say something wrong?" He inquired.

"No, I just have to go," I told him.

"Are you avoiding me?" He asked again. He sounded hurt but he wouldn't understand.

He could see my facial expressions even when I thought I was doing a great job hiding them.

"What? What is it? You are scared." He said to me.

"I'm fine, okay? I just need to be alone, to rest." I replied to him while avoiding his eyes.

He said no more words and I could tell he was staring at me funny.
