Abyss

After whining for a while, Mary gave up. She laid on Lucius's shoulder letting him carry her to the entrance.

Suddenly, Mary heard a hiss. Mary turned her head a little and saw a huge wooden double door. She knew they were at the main entrance.

"Lucius, let me down."Mary said.

Lucius looked at her, doubtfully. But he still put her down gently from his shoulder. Mary landed on the floor and touched the floor.

She knocked on it a few times, it was hard. She looked left and right. The wooden planks that were once broken were fixed, flawlessly.

Lucius coiled up, sitting on his tail while watching her touch the floor. He tilted his head, confused. He hissed.

Mary jumped as she didn't expect him to hiss at her. She looked behind her, annoyed and they made eye contact.

He saw Mary look at him. He quickly wrote something on his paper and took it up for her to see.

What's wrong? He wrote.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just wanted to know if it was fully fixed."Mary said, honestly.

He nodded and continued waiting for her to be done.

For some reason, Mary used her hands to crawl and turned her whole body to face Lucius. She looked up at him.

"Do you know how to get out of here?"Mary asked.

He shook his head and wrote. I don't know.

Mary sighed and mumbled."Brother, please wait for me a little longer. I promised I'll save you."

Lucius looked at her, confused but he didn't say anything while seeing her mumbling to herself, depressingly.

Suddenly, he smiled at Mary, brightly and slithered next to her. He picked her up by his arm and swung her on his shoulder.

Gave up and confused, Mary let him carry her to anywhere he liked without asking.

He slithered back into the corridor but this time he went to the nearest door. He hit the door down and slithered inside.

Mary saw there were tons of instruments.

This must be a music room but...Why would he bring me here? She thought. As Lucius carried her to a wooden chair near the piano.

He put her down and slithered around the place, poking everything he saw.

What is he doing? Does he not know what all these instruments are? But he stayed here for a long time, right? So how can he not know? Mary sighed. Let's ignore him.

Mary turned to look at the piano. She opened up the piano's fallboard and pressed a key.

A soft tone came out of the piano as she pressed down the key.

Lucius looked at her, his eyes very round and he zoomed next to her. He looked at the keys, curiously and poked one of them.

It made a sharp tone as he pressed on it. His snake-like tail stood up and his eyes were sharp.

Mary looked at him and pressed a note in the middle. Lucius looked at her, relaxed. His eyes were round and his tail gently swaying up and down.

Then, he pressed another note again and again until it started to get annoying. Mary pushed his hands away and said.

"Can you please stop?"

He looked at her, his ears down. Mary hit her plum on her face, feeling kind of guilty. She breathed heavily while Lucius looked at her, confused and sad.

"Look. If you simply play it, it will sound horrible and annoying. So, here."

Mary pressed some keys, swiftly and beautifully. It sounded so wonderful that Lucius looked at her, astonished.

Suddenly, Mary stopped and looked at him, rubbing the back of her neck.

"I forgot the other half...I only remember these parts."Mary said, embarrassed.

Unexpectedly, Lucius hugged her. Mary blushed and pushed him away.

"Hey, why are you hugging me for!?"Mary said, alarmed.

He wrote on a paper. It was amazing.

Mary's face, reddened as she quickly turned away from him.

She said in a low and proud tone."My parents used to bring me to learn a lot of music and other stuff. So, there's nothing special about it."

He slithered away like he didn't hear what she said. Then, he brought another musical instrument. A violin.

Mary taught him about the violin and other instruments.

After a long time, they almost tested all the room's instruments. Mary lay on the chair, exhausted. Lucius was still excited to find out more. He carried a trumpet towards her and hissed at her. Mary tilted her head and glance at him.

Mary raised both her hands up and put them in a T.

"Stop! No, more instruments! I'm tired."She said, wasted.

He looked at Mary with his sad looks but didn't write anything. He put the trumpet away and coiled up, next to her. He landed his head on his tail and noticed Mary, having a difficult time resting.

He hissed at her and Mary glared at him. She saw him, petting his tail like he was telling her to sit or sleep on his tail.

Mary looked away, instantly and acted like she didn't see anything.

Lucius, who didn't like being ignored, slithered around her. Mary sat up straight.

"What are you doing?"Mary asked.

He hissed and stopped behind her. Then, landed his head on her chair's top rail. Mary looked at him and looked around her. She was surrounded by his tail but she was too tired to even care.

They looked at each other in the eyes, silently.

Suddenly, Mary heard a crack. Before she knew it, she was falling into darkness. She looked up and saw Lucius stretching his hand out, desperately like he was trying to grab her. But he missed.

Mary fell into the abyss.
