Just a little misunderstanding

"Ah...we wasted a lot of time...Let's get a move on, shall we?"Mary asked while she walked away from Lucius."And Lucius, can you pass me that knife? You know I want to protect myself."

He slithered back to the door and took the knife with him. He handed it to Mary and she placed it inside her pocket.

"Thanks!"Mary said as she continued to walk.

Lucius followed her from behind as they made their way to the backyard. When they were just a few steps away from the yard, Lucius could hear Mary taking a few deep breaths. Lucius placed his warm and huge hand on her shoulder and hissed.

Mary looked back and smiled at him in relief while her hand landed on his.

"Thanks again..." She said as she felt much better than before.

Mary took in one last deep breath before stepping into the yard. They were both greeted by the same yellow sky and as they looked back to their eye level. They noticed something far away from them, it seemed like a door.

"What do you think is that?"Mary asked him while Lucius shrugged."Well? Want to go find out?

He nodded and both of them walked across the yard and to it. For some reason, Lucius was acting a bit off when they were going near it. He kept looking around and whenever Mary asked what was wrong, he always replied with a shake of his head.

As they reached it, they saw something like a fictional object in front of them. Lights were swimming around while a thin metal held them like a picture frame. The lights were mystical as if they were staring into the galaxies.

"Is this the object that can help us go back?"Mary asked as she stared mesmerized at the extraordinary lights. "Lucius? Why aren't you answering?"

As Mary was about to turn around, Lucius held her in his arms.

"Lucius, what now?"

He unexpectedly tightened his hug, it was starting to feel suffocating for Mary.

"Lucius...Stop...it hurts...Lucius..."She pleaded while patting his arms.

But it only resulted in him, clenching tighter around her. She groaned, she was barely able to breathe. She then turned her head to the side and saw Lucius's eye gazing at the mystical portal object. His panting breaths were loud, his mouth was hanging wide open, revealing his sharp, deathly fangs.

Then, he switched his gaze to her, his eye was still sharp and fierce. For some reason, he suddenly grinned at her like a hunter who caught their prey. Mary felt her heart beating out of her chest, she slowly reached her hand out to her pocket and took the knife out without him knowing. She swung the knife at his neck while his grasp loosened.

He was staring at Mary in disbelief and was stunned by her action as he fell to the ground with Mary in between. Mary felt betrayed and hurt by his sudden attack. But that didn't stop her determination to live, she pushed his heavy body away while climbing out of his unconscious state.

When she managed to free herself from his weight, her whole mind was filled with hateful thoughts.

Why would he betray me like that? She thought as she clenched her hands in the dirt and turned around to look at him. I thought he meant it when he said he is 'different from other experiments' but I guess they were all the same no matter what!

Huh? Why are there scratch marks?

These thoughts came in when she saw Lucius, laying on the ground, unconscious. There were three big scratches across his back. Mary reached out her hand and touched them.

Blood? Why is he bleeding when was he attacked? How did he get all this?

As all the confused thoughts were flowing through her mind, she heard a growl in front of her. She looked in front of her and saw two massive bears' feet, she then slowly turned her view up to the experiment's head and saw a lion's head. It was the same size as the worm and anglerfish-like experiments.

She panicked she didn't know what to do as she froze in place.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lucius felt something off the moment he slithered on the grounds. He felt a sudden uneasiness as he looked around the place.

"What do you think is that?"He heard Mary ask.

He then switched his gaze to the object, Mary said. He was feeling extremely worried about something but he didn't know what it was about. He only replied with a shrug as he didn't want her to worry.

"Well? Want to go find out?"

Lucius was uncertain about her suggestion but he still nodded so as to not trigger her. Mary walked towards the ground while Lucius followed. He heard slight sounds coming from their backs but whenever he glanced back the sounds would disappear and there was nothing as if they were facing a ghost.

"Is everything alright? You keep acting weirdly, the moment we come here."He kept hearing her questions from time to time as they were approaching it.

When Mary and Lucius reached it, he heard something swoosh behind him. He immediately turned around and saw the gigantic beast in front of him, it was as big as the anglerfish he saw when he was helping Mary with her box searching.

He saw it, raised its gigantic bear paw. He followed his instinct and quickly switched his gaze back to Mary and hugged her, shielding her from its attack. The experiment dug its claws into his back as he clenched tightly on Mary in pain. His vision was blurring from its attack, he was at the brink of collapse. He then remembered Mary was by his side.

She must be very worried right now. He thought as he switched his sight to Mary, he couldn't see her face but he knew it was her.

He then tried to hide the pain with a smile, hoping Mary wouldn't notice anything was off.

But suddenly Mary stabbed a knife at the side of his neck.

Huh?

He thought as he collapsed onto the ground.
