Chapter 45

Claude looked at the pair of noble ladies.

Following his gaze, Marilyn's lips froze mid-smile. If Wade had not stopped in front of his beloved sister, Claude would have walked past them straight to Camellius Bale. The thought alone was a blow to her pride.

How long must I feel such jealousy toward a man?!

But Marilyn knew this was unbecoming of a lady.

"Hello, Lord Claude," she said, forcing a smile.

"It's been a while, my lady," he replied with a bow.

"I take it you must have been very busy. I've barely seen you as of late."

"I've had a lot of matters to tend to."

Claude smiled politely as Marilyn took his arm, and they walked forward. He escorted her as she enjoyed the envious stares from the gallery.

"I was worried since I saw you last with the Prince of Gaior. Are you injured anywhere?"

"I'm fine, as you can see."

"Thank heavens."

Marilyn noticed their reflection in the window—a beautifully perfect pair. Feeling elated, she changed the subject.
