Conquest of the Central District (1/5)

[DAY 48]

As Neo equips his troops and gathers his Legion, the battle against the Undead Horde intensifies for the people of the camp.

Minor fights over the distribution over food and water have already broken out. Most people accuse the camp leaders of intentionally withholding supplies for themselves so that they can increase power over the people.

On the other hand, The leaders of the camp are trying to counter these fights by sending small squads of survivors over the rooftops outside of the combat zone to search and bring back supplies, but these small amounts of supplies are not enough for the over one million people which are starving in the camp. The soldiers and the people fighting at the wall are given more rations while those who do not contribute anything are only given the bare minimum to stay alive.

Because of that, some older and weaker people have already died of thirst and starvation which only increases the panic and rage among the crowd more.

"What's the point of defeating those monsters out there only to starve behind our walls here?" most people made these and many similar statements, they They demanded a fair distribution of supplies among all survivors even though they do not contribute anything against the Undead Horde outside.

Whenever something is wrong or when humans are dissatisfied with a result, they often look for a culprit to whom they can blame all the problems they are having. The people hope that their problems will simply disappear when the culprit disappears, such a completely disillusioned and idiotic act, was made before the apocalypse all the time and people are just as foolish in the apocalypse, which makes the siege of the undead even more difficult.

...

In total their are around four roads leading into the camp from the northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest. All streets were blocked by a 8 meter build wall and everywhere on the wall there are fighters with firearms, melee weapons, bows and arrows, crossbows, stones and also oil which they then light to fend off the undead that stack on top of each other to close the wall overcome.

Meanwhile, are the neighboring houses equipped with heavy machine guns on the windows that permanently shoot and reload without any break. Furthermore, were the entrances to the houses barricaded with furniture and the rooms were reinforced with a few steel plates to secure.

Behind the 8 meter long wall, a little further away was another 4 meter high fence wall which is reinforced with steel and wood. This is the second defensive line which has not yet been used and as long as the first line is standing, never will be.

The streets under the fighters on the 8 meter wall and the buildings around it belong completely to the undead. Beneath the wall is a sea of undead that will eat anything they can lay their hands on without any mercy.

They are everywhere bumping into each other or get blocked by objects that quickly get destroyed by the Horde afterwards. Like that the Horde slowly makes its way towards the wall and the camp behind it.

From one of the alleys on the southwestern side, however, a huge shield suddenly broke through a small group of undead who were standing further at the back of the Horde.

After that, seven other people followed the man wielding the big shield. All of them were carrying large backpacks on their backs which seem to be full with food and water.

They made their way to one of the building's fire escapes and began to climb it to get to the top of the building.

Some Stage 1 undead would occasionally jump out of the buildings or surrounding streets and try to bite the eight survivors, but the group often made quick work of these undead and continued their way to the rooftop, eventually reaching the it.

The group was none other than Camp Luma's most famous and strongest group, it was the Hope group, which includes Donatien, Ninette, Meram and Elly as well.

In addition, there was another woman fighting with two daggers, a man with a heavy machine gun, another man with a fire axe, and the last one using a crossbow and short sword.

When the eight reached the rooftop, they took a short break to catch their breath.

...

"Am I going insane or has this become more than we saw yesterday when we went looking for supplies at the warehouse?" the man with the ax asked as he took deep and slow breaths and looked down at the street below him. He could see the wall in the distance and the camp's heavy machine guns could already be heard across the street. Meanwhile the Horde of Undead were still on the street and slowly made their way towards the wall.

"Probably another part from the south district came here, but that doesn't really matter, our problem are these special undead, which even explosives and grenades don't help against." Ninette said as she reloaded and cleaned her sniper rifle.

"Hm.. I think our situation doesn't seem as hopeless as one might think, although the undead are numerous, we have enough guns and ammunition, as well as heavy weapons. We'll probably win against the Horde in the long run. The only thing that worries me, is this giant undead that has been passive until now, lurking on the Northeast Street." said Meram, who was drinking some water and eating an energy bar.

"Don't forget the supplies that are lacking, people have to drink and eat, if we can't guarantee that in the camp, then there will be many deaths sooner than we think, and the first to starve are the weak, the children and the old, as well as pregnant women. They will all die if we don't find a quick solution to our supply problem" said the woman with the two daggers.

"Yes, the lack of supplies is actually one of our bigger problems but what worries me more about that is if these idiots of people are planning a riot. I mean we're fighting on the wall and out here to protect everyone. We're risking our lives but these Ungrateful, disillusioned people don't do anything but complain all day. They have voluntarily decided to manufacture ammunition and weapons, they can always help the soldiers and decide to join the Wall and earn their extra supplies. Hmph." said Ninette as she took aim at the street and took a closer look at the situation along the wall.

The wall, sandwiched between two huge, barricaded buildings, had thousands of soldiers everywhere. The wall glowed steadily as a sea of bullets fell upon the huge number of undead below them.

Even though the Camp has a lot of ammo, their ammo consumption was exorbitant. To meet this demand, the Camp decided to start producing bullets themselves and they were lucky to have some veterans in the Camp who knew something about ammunition production. It took some supplies and time, but the production of ammunition currently still covers the demand on the walls.

At first, Ninette didn't find anything strage. But when she looked further down the street, she suddenly discovered something. A shadowy figure made its way climbing up one of the two buildings next to the wall. The building is fully barricaded and serves as part of the Wall, and as such, fighters are also found there.

The shadow then stopped at the fourth floor and smashed in a window and the barricades that were there.

Ninette didn't hesitate and readied her sniperrifle and fired at the shadow.

Her shot briefly startled everyone else, who were still talking quietly to each other and resting on the roof. However after the shoot, everyone took up their weapons and prepared to fight.

"Crap, I missed, I just hit the shoulder." said Ninette as she grabbed her sniper rifle from the roof and stood up.

"Ninette, what did you shoot at?" Donatien asked as he raised his shield.

"I'm not sure what it was, but it climbed the building to the right and smashed through the fourth floor barricades and then went in. I have a bad feeling that it was a special undead. If we don't hurry up and help the fighters there, it will be too late for them." replied Ninette hastily.

"Okay, enough with the break, we'll make our way over the roofs to the wall and the building that Ninette talked about. If the wall falls all our worries about food and water don't matter anyway, let's go.'' Meram said, putting his backpack on his back and readying his two pistols.

Elly who had been silent until now and sat on the ground with her eyes closed, suddenly got up and took her sword in her hand and charged towards the building that Ninette was talking about.

"What's wrong with her? Damn we are one unit, why does this woman always have to play the hero instead of us working together?!" yelled Ninette suddenly as she put her backpack on her back and followed Elly.

"Sigh" the others all sighed and quickly followed them.

The group jumped over some rooftops while killing a few undead here and there on them, until they finally arrived at their destination.

In front of the group was a cable car which could transport one person from their roof into the 4th floor of the building where they want to go.

Elly used the cable car first and drove across a wide street filled with the Horde of Undead. The undead on the street noticed Elly above her and began to scream and growl. Some even tried to jump up to bite her. Of course, they couldn't get anywhere near her.

After a minute or so, Elly made it safely to the 4th floor of the building and immediately grabbed her short sword and looked around the room the cable car leads to.

The whole room stank of blood and sulfur and Elly quickly figured out the reason why.

In the room was a giant hole which connected the room opposite it with eaxh other. In the rubble of the wall Elly then saw a charred corpse of one of the fighters who was stationed here.

The fighter was still alive, but his hole body was burned and his armor was fused on him, it was clear that the man would not live much longer.

"Angel...save..." the man said as he opened his burnt eyes slightly and looked at Elly. Shortly thereafter, he stopped breathing and died.

Elly said nothing and just looked at the man. She then stood up, holding her sword hilt hard, and entered the room behind the ruined wall.

The other room had a few windows on one side which were barricaded but still had a small hole for the muzzles of guns to be put through to fire down onto the streets below.

However, the fighters wielding weapons were all on the ground, and their body parts, arms, legs, and organs were all over the ground. Here and there a few of them had turned undead and Elly made short work of them, looking around for the shadow that crept in.

Elly was completely silent all the time. Elly seemed to be calm and unaffected by the massacre in front of here, but in reality Elly was incredibly angry and wanted to fight the monster that caused so much suffering right away, but at the same time she knew that these special undead like this shadow are not as stupid as other undead, their intelligence can be compared more to that of a predator.

They don't understand complex thoughts, but can hide in the shadows and patiently wait for the best moment to strike. Elly has already experienced this in the fight against the Stage 2 with six arms.

But how was Elly able to fight the Stage 2 Mutant Undead in the first place?

The answer is because of her Stage 1 Soul... While it is true that a Soul can only be as strong as the person's body, there are certain situations in which a Soul can also be stronger. Such a situation is when the person gets an enlightenment and has a affinity with a element that allows her to do so.

First things first, to become a Stage 1 Soul you usually need a Stage 2 body and you have to realize what the core of your own soul is, which is your own self. Easier said than done, especially since realizing your true self is so relative. Every living thing has a different self and you can't just recreate it, it's unique in the vastness of the galaxy, while every being has its own challenges to recognize its own self.

Most living beings die without even beginning to discover their own true self.

It's like a gate that is locked in front of you, to which you alone have to find the key while at the same time you are the key you are searching for.

For Neo, the key was his Will to become stronger, never to suffer again and to start understanding and research and learn in freedom. After the death of his mother in his arms, that Will only grew stronger and Neo recognized his own true Self then.

The same happened with Luma as well. Her last thoughts were about annihilation and fire which made her realize what she really desired and then when she died, her Soul turned into a Stage 1 Soul and she was lucky and her body also continued to evolve into a Stage 2 Mutant Undead Body and merged more with parts of her soul, changing her appearance as a result.

With Elly it was no different. Although Elly still has at most a Low Stage 1 human body. She Can have a Stage 1 Soul in her because her affinity allows it. As said, every Soul has its own Self, which also determines the affinity with an element or ability.

Neos ability is his Miasma and Luma's affinity is fire. But in Elly's case it's more complicated.

Elly can use the energy of her Soul to amplify her Body to unbelievable heights. Elly awakened this power and her Soul by watching the twins she protected before, die.

...

It happened after Neo set off looking for his mother, afterwards the children were quickly confronted with the new reality of madness the apocalypse brought to this world.

A group of rapists and thieves saw easy prey in the vulnerable new group of children and woman. They ambushed them quickly and stole everything they had and started raping them. Elly, the pregnant woman and all the children were used by the monsters to the last breath and in the end they slit the children's throats open. Elly looked blankly at the children who were being violated and killed before her eyes that screamed for help but nobody beside Elly even looked at her.

There were people witnessing this event, but everybody had there own problems and nobody was interested in unnecessary trouble. Therefore they ignored the children's screams for help.

At the same time, Elly remembered her old Self. The Self that craved her mother's attention and hoped to receive love and closeness from her if Elly lived up to her expectations. Elly began to develop the same emotions for Neo as well, who previously saved her like a hero in shining armor.

Elly therefore kept imagining that she knew Neo's true face and tried to get closer to him more and more. She initially thought she was in love with him, but after Neo revealed himself to be a monster, those faint emotions were quickly replaced by the same feeling she felt after learning that her mother had betrayed and abused her.

She collapsed.

But when she saw the dead faces of the children and the pregnant women while a knife coming towards her throat. Suddenly she got an epiphany. She recognized her true Self.

These dead children lying in the dirt with hopeless look, that were herself, the pregnant woman who, with tears in her eyes, looked at the knife wound on her stomach with horror, that was Elly.

Just like them she let everything happen to her and thought that she had to endure all suffering so that she could be loved in the end.

But in the end, all that brought her to bear, the admission that it must be her own fault for being treated like garbage, she just didn't deserve it any other way. She just didn't have a spark of self-respect or self-esteem. She let the world do what she wants with her.

But when she saw the world holding a knife to her throat, she realized that she had to do something about it, she realized that this world will play with her if she doesn't do anything.

It will just play with her as it pleases and than kill her afterwards.

Elly's Soul awoke after realizing the true Self and became a Stage 1 Soul. Her self is the individual fighting against fate. The Self that wants to surpass heaven and all gods to have its own Will over everything. Her ability to use her Soul as a source of energy for her Body may not sound like much at first, but it is actually one of the strongest and most extraordinary abilities a Soul can possibly develop.

No matter what level her Body is, Elly has an infinite source of power and the stronger her Soul, the stronger it becomes. At a higher Soul level, Elly's potential will reveal itself. She will be able to destroy worlds with her Soul alone. Furthermore, creating her own worlds and creatures from her Soul would no longer be a problem from then on. She would becoem a being supreme and unique to the galaxy.

In short, her Soul itself could reshape and create existence at Will. She would literally become a Supernatural God.

But such powers require Elly a higher level of her Soul and so far she can only use her Soul as a power source for her body, but that alone has its advantages and also its restrictions, at least for now.

Back at the time, where the children died, Elly grabbed the knife at her throat with supernatural speed and destroyed it without leaving a scratch on her skin.

Then she massacred the rapist and klillers one by one. None of the rapists were spared and she slowly and painfully begun to kill these monsters. Only after a whole day passed, the last rapist died and Elly, drenched in blood, who challenges existence and all higher beings themselves, was born.

Elly, who was currently in the building, walking through the dead bodies everywhere, looking for the Stage 2 Undead, would often think about the moment the knife was at her throat.

They give her mind the courage and strength to continue where others would have given up long ago.

After some time searching, Elly finally struck gold on the 3rd floor and found her target in the corner of a long and wide hallway eating some humans who were still alive.

Elly looked at the monster for a long time with a calm look. After a while, the Stage 2 registered Elly's quiet stare and got up from the floor.

The Stage 2 looked similar to a human and was about 170 cm (5 ft. 6) tall and walked crouched and therefore appeared even smaller. The creature had oddly curved arms and a long and narrow face, and the creature's skin was completely red.

Suddenly it raised his arms and the arms twisted in a strange position so that his elbows pointed towards Elly. But where the elbows should have been filled with bone and flesh, there were only two holes from which a great yellow fire erupted.

Two projectiles of fire shot out of the elbow holes at once and flew straight at Elly with overwhelming force.

Elly looked at the projectiles calmly and hit them both with her bare fist.

"Boooom"

Made the projectiles after they hit Elly and formed a wall of smoke which completely surrounded Elly...
