Chapter 9

"What are you studying?"

"Medicine, my father is a doctor and I want to be one too", Sony said with a proud face. Since we started to walk Sony was constantly talking about literally everything.

"And you, are you working for the same company?", Mai nodded and looked to me.

"Jesus, talk! You are gonna be single for the rest of your life if you continue to look like you just came back from a funeral you had to pay for a person you didn't liked", she lightly hit me but still enough to let it hurt a little.

"That already happened, so this look is real", I muttered and looked at the dog on my leash that automatically let people stare at us.

"That was four years ago"

"Some events haunt people until they die", I snapped back and made a face at her.

"How old is he?", Sony asked and pointed at the black dog that just sniffed a flower like it was a glue stick.

"He is 10", I said and looked down at him with adoration.

"He is a really pretty dog and he is so cute. He sneaked into the bed when I was asleep and he literally turned into a second blanket", she said with a smile while my head shot up in surprise. Baby might be very friendly to most people and he is very soft in the way he usually acts, but he don't climbs into every bed.

"He must like you then, he usually doesn't do this with anyone besides us", Mai said and smiled at Sony who actually looked proud.

"If you ever need someone to take care of him and Max is busy let me know, it's n problem for me", she said with a smile to me.

"Uh..Thanks, I'll keep that in mind", I said and smiled too even if it was an unsure smile. I've hardly got offers from people that didn't involved something violent or illegal as a payback. Being known as a good shooter in my inner circles and part of a big Italian clan had -not surprisingly- more down sides than anything else.

We continued walking along and eventually got into a park where dogs seemed to be allowed since the first thing happening was a chihuahua that barked at Baby the second he got spotted by the little dwarf- dogs weren't any different than humans. The ones with the smallest chances somehow always have the disease to start shut with much bigger ones.

Luckily for this little thing baby was in most parts confused but kept calm.

"I'll go buy ice cream, you guys want something too?", Mai then suddenly asked and while Sony immediately started bobbing her head I shook it.

"Lemon please", Sony said.

"Uhhh, I thought you would take strawberry or something else sweet", Mai said with a smile and Sony smiled back.

"I have my dark sides too", she grinned and while laughing Mai went to get them both ice cream.

I didn't knew what I should do now. We immediately fell into silence and even tho it felt not as pressuring as it usually felt for me, I still didn't knew what to say.

"You don't like ice cream?", thank lord that girl liked to talk. I remembered that she asked me something and stopped my spontaneous thanks to whoever was up there at the moment.

"I like ice cream, but I'm on a diet because of my health", I said. I started the sentence with mumbling but decided it to try speak more out of myself- in the end it sounded like a hiccup, bravo Loui….

"Ahh, what is your favorite flavor?", she asked then without going deeper on my mentioned health.

"Lemon and Strawberry", I said. This time more confidently from the beginning- a fully sentence that didn't sound like a hiccup, your getting better Loui….

"OI, we share something! What else do you like?"

Crab. What do say is your hobby if you mostly just shoot people?….

"Ehh, I like art and books", i hesitantly said. That would come the closest I'd guess.

"Oh and baby", I added and patted the dogs head.

"Of course who wouldn't like him?", she said with a chuckle and smiled at me. She had a pretty smile. She also had a pretty face and pretty hair. Overall she was just pretty.

"Yeah", I said absently before quickly snapping out of it.

"Between.. how old are you?", she asked and looked at me.

"Uh, 23"

"Oh, just one year older than me"

"I thought you where twins", I said in surprise.

"No, my brother is the same age as Max", I nodded. Logical, they where in the same course…

another when brain is absent moment…

"I'm still the oldest then?", Mais voice suddenly came from behind us and we both jumped at the surprise

"You will always be the oldest grandma", I said with a slick grin and immediately got hit with her free hand.

"It's just five years, stop exaggerating", she said with a frown.

"Oh you look younger!", Sony said.

"See, that's what people wanna hear", she said with her stern look at me and her eyebrow raised higher than the Himalaya.

"I don't say what people wanna hear, I said the truth", I drily responded. Mai sighed and turned her head to Sony.

"Do me a favor and socialize her more, she has no friends"

"I have you and Max!", I blurred out with an offended tone and expression.

"We don't count as friends, we are family", she snapped back so I decided to sulk.

"So cute, she always looks as if she wants to shoot everyone around her but now she just look like a cute dumpling", Sony said.

I decided to sulk a little bit more and not tell her that usually shoot people around me, cause surprise bitch, that was my job and the only thing to not be a burden for my dad.

"Let's look for something to eat, I'm getting hungry", Mai said.

"You just had an ice cream"

"Ice melts, it's more like drinking something"

With that she clinked her arms with both me and Sony and dragged us to nearby restaurants.

We ended up at a BBQ place and while I turned the meat around the both woman chatted away.

"Loui", it suddenly came and I zoomed back in, realizing Sony must have talked to me.

"Huh?"

"Let her be, she doesn't realize it but she enjoys cooking", Mai said.

Did I? Doesn't matter, I would have enough time to think about what I enjoy and what not when I knew July was save again.

Just as the first round of meat was eaten my phone began to buzz and one look at the screen got me jumping up and giving Mai the look she need to know who it was.

Without excusing me I went away from the table and into a silent corner before accepting the call.

"Pim"
