Breaking in

After the unexpected call, Ayame travelled to a warehouse district and looked for one with the number 45. Having been here before in the past she did not have trouble going through the lanes of warehouses.

Spotting an ordinary-looking warehouse with a sign saying building 45, Ayame walked up to the garage door. Before opening it she pulled over her hood and put on her kitsune mask to keep her identity somewhat hidden.

Squatting down Ayame pulled on the garage door and lifted it up revealing what looked like a regular mechanic shop. Walking through the shop casually, after a certain point she hit something that was like a barrier causing the room to change.

The warehouse no longer looked like a mechanic shop and was just a bare room. The only thing present was a table and 2 seats with one being filled with a man in a suit.

Ayame walked up to the table and took a seat in front of the man who held a piece of paper.

"Welcome, Assuming you made it past the barrier, you are the kitsune for this mission." The man spoke knowing that only their hire could make it through the barrier.

"Yes, I am." Responding with a few words, Ayame stayed silent waiting for the man to continue with the mission.

"As stated in the letter you will be heading to Damien's hotel room at The Throne to interrogate and eliminate him. You can use any means you want but know that anything he says could be important, so make sure to mark down everything he says." While speaking the man slid over a phone which was to be used to send the information over.

"Is that all?" Picking up the phone Ayame slid it into her pocket and zipped it up.

"That's all you need to know, if anything comes up we will update you through the phone. If all goes well, destroy the phone after sending over any information and then you are free to go." With everything being said, the man got up from his chair and exited through a door that was behind him.

Ayame also took the cue to leave and came out the way she came in. Closing up the warehouse, she made her way back to the waystone so she could get started with her mission.

Appearing around a bunch of skyscrapers, there was one building that she was looking for in particular. It was a place called The Throne which acted as a high-end mall, casino and hotel. It was a common place for rich people to stay and waste their lives. So it is no surprise that a high-profile target Ayame was after would be at this place.

'Ughh why are all those meetings so intense? Feels like If I said one thing wrong I would be executed on the spot.' Complaining about the process, it was Ayame's least favourite part of the mission due to just the fact it made her so uncomfortable.

'Thought the killing and torture would be the worst part, but there is something about those men that feel so fake.' Every time she went for a meeting of something similar, her kitsune sense always felt off and the person didn't seem human. However, she never looked too much into it as it wasn't her business and as far as she knew the kitsune were the only form of yokai left.

'I'm sure Tomoe would have told me if there were other races… Maybe she is still hiding stuff from me.' Ayame wasn't sure if Tomoe was telling her everything, but at the same time maybe she just needed to ask.

'Damn it I'm getting distracted, I need to get into this hotel.' Ayame shook her head to snap out of her own thoughts and focused back on the mission.

Walking up to the edge of the building, she looked towards the centre of the city where there was a small park. Just north of the park was a building that had a massive sign at the bottom.

[The Throne] With a massive chair above the sign, it felt very grand and all the flashing lights added to the headache of a display.

'Good thing their hotel is easy to reach via the other buildings.' Ayame analysed how she would approach the hotel, and it being next to other skyscrapers made a roof entry possible.

'Only problem is he could be at the casino which is behind the building and without being suspicious I'm going to need new clothes.' Ayame would need to dress the part and thankfully her mission was to eliminate the target so she could show her face if needed.

"Let's see if they are in their room which should be room 420." Wanting to avoid this scenario she opted to check his room first before going the disguise route.

'Okay, let's get close to The Throne.' Intending to go through the roof, she prepared to jump across the gap in between buildings. Luckily the waystone was set up on one of the tallest buildings which made it easy for her to get across.

Calling upon the wind kitsune she jumped off the building and glided to the next one. Smoothly landing she continued the momentum and repeated the process until she made it to The Throne.

'Here finally.' Landing on top of The Throne, she only needed to get inside and find the target's room.

*Creeak*

"So you said this is a great spot for a break?" A man that was wearing a suit came walking out with a friend who was in similar clothes.

"Yeah man, this place is great, at least it's quiet and we can smoke here too."

Ayame seeing the men come out from the building, quickly hid behind some ventilation shafts that were on the roof. The men didn't notice her and got closer to the edge without bothering to shut the door behind them.

'That was close, but it seems like it will work in my favour.' Ayame took the opportunity to cast a concealing spell to hide her from normal alarms and cameras just in case there were some. She then made her way slowly to the door where the men came from.

"You also get a great view." Both the men were looking over the edge enjoying the view, completely unaware someone was behind them about to break in.

Without making a sound, Ayame got in through the door just as the wind picked up forcing it to shut.

*BANG!*

Both the men turned around spooked, but feeling the wind they assumed the door was shut by it.

*

'Ow! That hurt.' Ayame covered her ears as the loud bang from the door caused them to ring.

'Welp glad that went okay, but now I need to figure out if room 420 is on floor 4 or some other floor. ' Moving onto the next part of her plan, she ran down the emergency staircase until she found a door.

Making it to a floor with the number 20, Ayame decided to go down a few more as it would have been the penthouse floors which wouldn't tell her if the room numbers were based on which floor they were on.

Once she reached floor 15, Ayame opened up the fire escape door and peeked inside. The hallway was lined with rooms, each having a number next to the door. Just as she hoped they were numbered based on the floor.

With this knowledge, Ayame continued her run down the stairs until she reached floor 4.

'Kind of odd he is renting a room on a low floor. I would have expected him to go higher, but I guess when you spend most of your time outside of the room, it doesn't matter where you go.' Ayame figured someone who likes to indulge, thought they would get a nice view of the city, but no matter the reasoning it didn't matter to her.

Approaching the 4th floor, Ayame made sure her conceal spell was freshly casted as the effects wore off over time. Once she was comfortable, she opened up the 4th-floor emergency door and looked down the hall.

No one could be seen which gave her the clear to move in and find room 420. Fast walking down the hallway it did not take Ayame long to find room 420.

'Here it is.' Stopping at a door with the number 420, she quickly knelt down to look at the door handle. On the handle, there was a card reader which was the one thing that stopped her from getting inside. However, Ayame put her hand against the lock and chanted in her mind.

'Lend me the power of lightning Thargrid.' Shortly after her chant, a small lightning strike came off her hand and into the card reader. This disengaged the lock and Ayame jumped up in excitement.

'Yes! Despite only being able to use small shocks, it was enough.' Ayame wasn't adept at using magic other than the 4 basic ones and could only do small things with them, but it was enough for her to disrupt a basic electronic lock.

'Okay let's see if Damien is here.' Quickly calming down, she grabbed the handle and slowly opened the door ready to attack.
