A terrible mistake

Karuna gritted her teeth. Although unwilling to accept the truth, she couldn't deny it either. The possibility was real, and it was haunting. Just thinking about it left her hollow. 

It was actually a reality that the many millenia she waited had all been for nothing. These tho8ghts have crossed her mind before.

"Let's just assume he survived for a few years, and just like you, he had been trying to find you. To return to you, but died at some point. A fate he could not avoid. Maybe killed or the harsh conditions of the Underlands claimed him," he continued and enjoyed the sight of her trembling in anger.

"Or perhaps he is indeed still alive even as we speak but had lost faith in your survival. Lost hope in ever reuniting with you and moved on. Might have found a partner somewhere down there and started a family. I don't have to tell you how long it has been since his disappearance, do I?" He probed further.
