Chapter 3- Scavengers

Davies leaned on a tree as he watched Derek's expression which apparently had reverted to nothing. He continued, " Bloodied, battered bodies looking withered like their very essence was taken out, the aftermath of the soul being sucked out of the body".

" The least they could do was clean up their mess, typical of low grade demons" Derek grunted, resuming his little sports.

" Are we going after them?"
"No, we'll wait and see. Seems like Mourline is up for some bits of problem in the future. Those measly demons would like to stir trouble, and then... a surprise attack should do the trick",he said, a small smile playing across his lips.
" I don't think it's a good idea to play hide and seek",a frown edged Davis face. He wasn't sure Derek's plan would work. Scavengers were known to be extremely aggressive.
"We won't be playing games. The plan is to beat them to their game and kick some ass".

At this, Davis shrugged knowing what his brother meant. He decided to skip the topic into something lighter. Derek replied appearing less concerned with the subject. He'd known Davis to take interest in absurd things. He also knew that he thought himself to be the most comported between the two of them since he rarely caused trouble but Derek thought otherwise. He knew his brother, enough to know that he was more than he appeared to be.

"New students are returning. We should probably go to the principal to get it done, fast"

"Hopefully, one of them doesn't become a scavengers meal". Derek put his knives back and started leaving the place, heading towards the school building with his brother. Davies was quite thankful, even if he didn't say it out loud. He wasn't a fan of troubles and was obviously the good student. His brother however, was the exact opposite, with a not too good reputation. Troublesome and a deliquent known for never sticking to rules except for a few selected by him. It was probably a wonder to all how he always came first place at the end of the school year while he, himself followed suit, with the second place. He was also probably the only person that knows this twin brother of his to an extent, the fact that he was forged of so much more than he showed.

Natalie slept throughout the day. By the time she woke up, it was 7:30am and she was running late to her first class. Her first class!!. She took her kit with some clothes and rushed to the dorms bath. The bathroom wasn't crowded as she expected. It was neat and comfortable. However, hurried over her bath and went back to her room. She put on a black turtle neck blouse over a pair of jeans and sneakers, then tied her hair into a ponytail. When her stomach growled, she remembered she'd eaten nothing the previous night and she thought about what to have for breakfast before a sudden knock jolted her from her thoughts . She rushed to open the door and it turned out to be Kira.
"Are you done, we're almost late", Kira said

"Okay... give me a moment, I'll go get my bag"
Soon they were out of the dorm. Natalie saw some students who were also rushing out of the building and she felt relieved they weren't the only ones. She tried as much as she could to register the path to the school building as it was a bit far from their living quarters. She saw the school block and thought it not less than an actual museum. It was really big, too much for a school.
"Which area do you major" Kira asked

"I'm taking business courses, isn't it what the school offers"

"Actually, Mourline makes provision for science courses"

"Oh... I didn't know." She actually didn't know. Given the fact that she had never wanted to be here in the first place, there was no need for her to carry out any research.

"I'm guessing we won't be in the same class department"

"Yeah, right" Kira said. They didn't speak again till Kira got to her class. She wished Natalie luck on her first day.

"Teachers here are quite weird but... nice" she smiled

"Okay... I'll keep that in mind" she replied smiling and waving back at her.

Weird. She knew weird. Was once referred to as one, so the teachers shouldn't be a problem. When she got to class, she tried to walk in without gaining attention but that was short-lived because the teacher called her out to introduce herself to the class. The process was short and quick but she thought it to be the most uncomfortable exercise she'd undergone. The last time she was required to stand in front of a class was when her father had transferred her to a new highschool, when his company had started doing well. The new school where her nightmares began.
