Explosions and Fried Chicken Rolls

Chapter 72 Explosions and Fried Chicken Roll!?

If Fanny had to summarize Nick Fury's character, he would only need one word.

Sharpness.

He always knew to suspect everyone, even ruthlessly suspecting himself. Therefore, Fanny concluded that using 'Ars Magna' to simulate the effect of the oath would definitely make Nick Fury doubt his dismissive attitude towards the oath.

There was no need to make him completely believe in the oath's authenticity. He only had to suspect that it was possible. Fanny never thought that he could hide his identity forever, but he wanted to delay the revelation until he was strong enough to ignore Nick Fury, SHIELD, and Hydra.

The three seconds of pain felt like forever for Nick.

Replacing the pain was shock and surprise. He was most uncomfortable in the face of factors that he could not control.

"It seems that you are thinking about something bad!"

Fanny dispersed the 'Ars Magna' command to make Nick's heart ache for three seconds, then continued calmly, "You will find it beneficial for you to stay true to your promises."

"The effect of the oath would disappear as long as you keep your promises."

"Can you freely modify the terms of the oath?" Nick couldn't have known that Fanny used 'Ars Magna' to deceive him. He asked about the details of the oath

instead, "Can you change the punishment for breaking the contract?"

Tony had no idea what had happened. He could only see the change in Nick's expression and behavior after Fanny told him to take an oath.

"Don't think too much about it. This is a special situation; I can't use this kind of oath willy-nilly."

Fanny was afraid that Nick would ask him to make someone else swear an oath. If that happens, the truth behind the performative contract would be immediately revealed.

"Let me introduce myself again. My name is Fanny Helsed. I am a college student."

Fanny stretched out his hand with a smile on his face. His cheery attitude and handsome face made him look a little harmless.

"Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD!"

Nick suddenly recalled that he hadn't introduced himself, despite Fanny already knowing his name.

Nick Fury felt the same sense of mystery as Tony. Every interaction with Fanny only generated more questions.

"Remember, you are the only one who knows my identity. Don't report it to SHIELD, and don't tell anyone else."

This was really the main reason for deceiving Nick with the oath. He didn't want his family's life to be disturbed.

Nick's expression was so complicated to the point of being unreadable, but anyone could guess that he was in bad mood.

"Where did you get these abilities?" Nick gathered his composure and focused on his mission again.

"I was born with them,"

Fanny replied, deadpan. He was reincarnated into this world along with the system, so he wasn't lying.

Tony understood that Fanny wanted to hide as much about himself as possible, so he said nothing. He was still pondering about the oath. Judging by Nick Fury's behavior, the oath seemed to be effective.

Nick Fury was obviously dissatisfied with this answer, but he didn't want to stiffen the relationship from the get-go, so he had no choice but to accept it.

"I need to know what abilities you have."

Nick proceeded with threat and opportunity assessment.

"Well, there's this neat armor with a high defense that I could summon anytime," Fanny snapped his fingers and continued, "I can fly, and I can make fried chickens."

"Wait, fried chickens?!"

Nick Fury was stunned.

"Come, try it."

It was too troublesome to explain, so Fanny decided to just summon two 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' and handed one each to Nick Fury and Tony.

Nick stared at the 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' in his hand. Whatever understanding he had reached about Fanny was blown away by the nonsensical ability.

Nick stared at the fried chicken in his hand for a while, speechless. When he finally took a bite, a smile appeared on his normally stern face.

Although it was a bit ugly...

This was the true effect of Fanny's 'Sumire Karaage Rolls.'

After feeding so many people every day, his proficiency with 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' had been rising exponentially.

Although, it seemed that three per second was the upper production limit of the skill. Its evolution took on a different form after that.

Those who consumed his 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' would experience a special kind of pleasure.

The food itself seemed to be imbued with a soul. Its one-of-a-kind delicious and addictive taste really made it almost like a drug. Fanny couldn't help but think about the exceedingly accurate system description for 'Sumire Karaage Rolls.'

"I can make three of these per second. I don't need materials or energy. I could pretty much make it continuously, though I won't do it 24/7."

Fanny couldn't be happier than if Nick Fury help him market and sell the 'Sumire Karaage Rolls.' This was his most overpowered skill.

He really wanted to know what kind of evolution it would go through next.

However, Nick Fury was silent. As expected from the master spy, he realized something abnormal about the pleasant feeling that followed the fried chicken. He needed to know everything about the food and its side effect before he could allow Fanny to do anything with that ability.

Fanny sighed in disappointment at Nick's silence. "Next, there's the portal. I could basically go everywhere in New York."

"Is it the sparkly fire ring you came from?"

Nick asked.

"It's a teleportation portal!" Fanny glared at Nick. It looked like a simple fire ring at a glance, but it was a high-tier spatial manipulation ability. It was so hard to learn!

Nick ignored Fanny's indignant glare and carefully inquired further, "Is there any time limit? Maximum distance? How big could you make it? Can it only transport people?"

Fanny suddenly had a headache from the barrage of questions. He began to regret his decisions.

"It was limited to New York and places that I know. I might be able to expand the range in the future. It could last for ten minutes at most, and I could make it up to around two meters in diameter. As long as it fits, there's no restriction."

Fanny carefully answered. The specification he gave was around a fifth of the spell's full potential—he wasn't very talented in Kamar-Taj magic, after all.

"Also, today's Raging Flames Explosion. You have seen its power, but I can only shoot it once."

Fanny thought back to the tragic battlefield, and his face darkened. That battle was actually a large part of why he agreed to meet and expose his identity to Nick Fury.

He knew he would never fit to be a superhero, but he couldn't bear to see the city he lived in destroyed either.

If he let the plot of The Avengers unfold as it was….

He had contacted Nick Fury with the hope of reducing the casualties from the Chitauri invasion, however little.

Though, it would be fine even if he failed. He didn't really care if New York was invaded or blown away by a nuclear bomb—as long as his families and friends were fine, he couldn't ask for more.
