Are You Trying to Dictate Me

Chapter 102 Are You Trying to Dictate My Actions?

Nick Fury would have passed Fanny's words as a joke in the past, but today's call made him rethink what he knew.

"How on earth did you know it was him?" Nick Fury looked at Fanny. No matter how hard he thought, he still couldn't guess how Fanny could have known.

A spy?!

Mind reading?!

Or could it be clairvoyance?!

"Do you want to know?" Fanny turned to look at Nick Fury. The scarlet eyes on his mask flashed. "Make another oath, and I will consider telling you!"

"…"

The lesson from the last time was still vivid in his mind. Nick Fury had sworn to not take this kind of oath for the rest of his life. Forget Fanny; nobody on this planet could make him take an oath.

Fanny smirked when he saw Nick Fury silently turn his bald head away. Fanny stretched his body. "If there's nothing else, I'm leaving first!"

"Why did you save Bruce Banner and leave him with Stark?" Nick stopped Fanny from leaving with a serious question.

Fanny was not surprised that Nick Fury knew about this. Banner hadn't exactly been keeping his head down in the villa; he even went to Stark Building with Tony. It was unsurprising that SHIELD knew about him.

"Are you trying to dictate my actions?" Fanny replied in a dissatisfied tone.

It was actually uncharacteristic for him to say something like that, but he wanted to build a tough and unpredictable image in front of Nick Fury. Nothing good would come if that image was broken.

Sure enough, Fanny's unyielding attitude made Nick restrain his own. He immediately shook his head and said, "He is our primary observation target. I need to understand the situation."

"As you wish!" Fanny said casually, "What I want to do and will do is my business, and your observation is yours. We aren't in a position to interfere with each other."

Nick Fury frowned. He was not a good-tempered person. He just wasn't confident that he could take Fanny down; otherwise, he wouldn't bother with all this dance.

"You should know that he is very dangerous!"

"I am also dangerous!" Fanny tilted his head. "And to be honest, I don't think either of us was as dangerous as you!"

Nick Fury was filled with confusion.

"I will take responsibility for him!" Fanny took the responsibility without hesitation and looked at Nick Fury again. "If Hulk was involved with anything, you can call me immediately."

He had been planning to farm experience with Hulk for the foreseeable future anyway, so he wasn't worried that anything would happen. Even after the vacation, Fanny could never ignore anything that happened to Hulk.

Nick Fury's worries didn't disappear with Fanny's guarantee; they only grew bigger.

He had planned to put Hulk in the Avengers team he had prepared. But that vital member had been abducted by Fanny. It wouldn't be a problem if Fanny joined Avengers as well; it would be a 'buy one get one free situation.

But he knew full well how terrifying it would be if Fanny turned against him.

Although, his current relationship with Fanny was relatively peaceful. He could only keep the thought about betrayal inside his head.

Nick Fury pondered for a moment. He shouldn't act rashly before knowing Fanny's purpose. Moreover, his investigation suggested that Banner had a good relationship with Stark. Perhaps he could approach Banner through that relationship.

Nick Fury didn't hold Fanny any longer after that.

Fanny also thought about the question Nick Fury asked when he returned home. He could see that the director was particularly concerned about Captain America.

Fanny didn't know that Nick Fury was obsessed with Captain America because of the captain's crucial role in the Avengers team.

It would be impossible for Nick Fury himself to become a member of the Avengers due to his lacking strength. But the Avengers needed a leader, someone to bring them together. There wasn't really anyone else that could bear such responsibility.

Tony Stark's current character, personality, and philosophy prevented him from becoming a good leader for this team. Every day that he didn't himself cause trouble would be worth celebrating.

As for his subordinates, Black Widow and Hawkeye, it was a matter of identity. Putting them as the leader of the Avengers would make the team appear subordinate to SHIELD, which was counterintuitive for the team's purpose.

The reserve members, Banner and Hulk, were currently held by Fanny. Even if they were free, neither of them could act as leaders. One was a pure academic type, while the other was a combat maniac with impaired intelligence.

As for the alien Prince, the pride of the Nordic Aesir, the Thunder God Thor…it would be hard to know whether he would join in Earth's battle. Even if he would help Earth, letting an alien lead Earth's premier defense force was not a good idea.

Perhaps Fanny could be suitable as the leader, but Fanny's current attitude and unknown purpose were a minus point.

Fortunately, Captain America had reappeared to fill this spot. If the historical records were correct, Captain America would be perfect to serve as the leader of the Avengers.

Fanny did not know what Nick Fury was thinking, but after thinking for a while, he decided he didn't care. Anyway, if nothing went wrong, Captain America would definitely wake up.

Skye had indeed changed after their conversation last night. She no longer stayed cooped up in her room all day to practice her ability; instead, she returned to her place in front of the living room computer.

"You're back so soon?" Skye was a little surprised that Fanny had returned. "Didn't you say that someone asked you for a favor?"

"Yes, I'm done!" Fanny sat on the sofa and watched the boring programme on TV. He suddenly asked Skye, "By the way, do you know Captain America?"

"Huh?!" Skye thought for a moment, then replied weirdly, "Of course, I read his manga when I was little!"

"Then what would you feel if you discovered that he was still alive?"

"He is still alive?" Skye's face was filled with shock. She exclaimed, "He would have to be ninety years old or something!"

"Technically, I guess, but I don't think that's how it works." Fanny continued, "Maybe you will see him on TV in a short while."

"Is he really alive?" Skye turned away from the computer, her attention on Fanny. "How did you know? Did you meet him?"

Fanny briefly explained what had just happened.

"How did he manage to stay alive after being frozen in ice for so long?" Skye had a lot of question marks on her face. "Also, didn't the history book say that he sacrificed himself to kill an enemy? How could he end up frozen?"

"Who knows how he survived?"

Fanny also felt that it made zero sense. Even with super serum, Captain America shouldn't be able to endure being frozen for so long. The Winter Soldier Bucky's sarcophagus was specially designed by Hydra, not some random freezer.

Yet Captain America was encased in all-natural ice!

"Regardless of how he survived…," Fanny replied thoughtfully, "If he had properly learned how to use a parachute, the world would have been completely different."
