Chapter 72: No One Else

Tara’s POV

The first trial had been about teamwork, assessing and judging how much and how well we could work together as a group—as a pack. Despite the disruption of the wolves that had attacked the kids we were meant to find and protect, we had managed to pass the first stage well without any other complications.

The second trial, though a trick through and through, had been about selflessness. About sacrifice. About whether or not you would be willing to risk your life and die for the team, for the cause, I suppose.

But what was the cause, here? What were we expected to accomplish now?

There had been themes in all of the trials we were placed under so far. There had to be a theme here, too. Something we could use to help us figure out what was expected of us. I guess this would’ve been a lot easier if there wasn’t so much tension between Victor and I.
