Chapter 83: A Favor For A Friend

Tara’s POV

“Um, hello?”

I ignored Talia as she called out to me, shutting my eyes as I felt the warm ground beneath my back. This underground city was surprisingly well ventilated, with a warmth that seemed to vibrate from the vibrant life happening all around me, echoing against the walls of the cave.

“We aren’t done yet. Why are you—are you dying? What’s happening right now?”

“Yes, I’m dying, leave me here to die.”

I heard her sigh at my dramatic response and felt her move across the dirt I was on toward me.

“You know life would be a lot easier if you just got up and faced it,” she noted, gazing down at me.

“It’s not life that’s the problem, trust me,” I sighed. “It’s the bloody mountains you’ve been having me climb ever since you snatched me from my peaceful farmer’s life with Tanner.”

I opened one eye to glare at the woman still hovering over me. She laughed as she relented, and moved to lay beside me on one of the platforms we were climbing.
