Chapter 179: Something Is Amiss

Victor’s POV

“You’re not coughing up as much blood,” was the first thing Axel told me when he walked into my office that day.

I had been spending almost the entire day in the study, going over the contract that Kia had given us, comparing it to the laws and rules we ourselves had, while listening and reading over the complaints and thoughts of the elder council.

I held a small meeting with Hendrix himself, who had only just left, and despite keeping up appearances, felt more weak then ever. But Axel was right—the blood had slowed.

“I know, thank you for pointing that out,” I retaliated.

Axel laughed lightly, his grin growing wider at my sour expression. “Do you think you’ll just start projectile vomiting blood all over the papers in front of you? Should I knock on wood?”

“I’d appreciate it,” I mumbled lightly. I heard a faint knocking sound somewhere in the room as I looked up from the papers I had in front of me to Axel and sighed. “What are you doing here?”
