Chapter 187: A Sleepless Night and The Inn

Victor’s POV

I was floating this time, unaware of who or even what I had become.

There were so many memories falling around me like hail, like snow, like rain, and amidst it all, I somehow managed to stay dry. And then something stirred around me, moving as though through all the falling around me. The hail and snow and rain seemed to part at the long, shadow-cloaked presence that emerged.

However, there was no alarm in me that I could find—the hairs on the back of my neck were not standing on alert, and there was nothing in my bones that was telling me to run, to hide, or to fight.

“Hello, little wolf.”

It was the same woman from so long ago. Her long fingers trailing behind her on the ground, and there was a lilt to her tone as she twisted her head to stare at me. But there were no eyes that were looking at me, and I didn’t know whether or not it was me staring at her or her staring at me.

I nodded my head in greeting, not daring to say anything more.
