Chapter 6

"Oh! Bulls eye!" I raised my arms above my head in excitement.

"I guess it wasn't just beginners luck" Jay said followed by a laugh.

"Like I said, I'm full of surprises" I said to him as I raised my eyebrows. I walked back to the dart board and picked off the darts from the board.

"I'm gonna get another beer you want one?" Jay asked.

I took off one dart before turning around to him "Yea sure, thanks" I turned back around and continued to take off the darts.

Jay and I had been hanging out the past few days since Molly's. I was enjoying getting to know him better. I took the rest of the darts off and turned around when I heard a whistle behind me. One guy stood next to the small table that Jay and I were preoccupying. He had a wide smirk on his face.

"You got a nice ass sweetheart"

I rolled my eyes as I slowly took a few steps forward "Get lost" I stood behind the line for the darts.

"Why don't you come back to my place? I'll show you a good time" He grabbed my butt causing me to jump.

"Hey, she said to get lost"

I turned around to see Jay approaching the guy. The guy scoffed as he turned around back to me  "Don't mind this guy sweetheart. Come on" He grabbed my arm.

"Hey!" Jay grabbed onto the guys shoulder making him turn back around to him "Don't touch her" He had a serious expression on his face.

"And what are you going to do about it?" The guy pushed Jay causing him to move a few steps back.

Jay took it but after a few seconds he swung at the idiot causing him to fall back and hold the side of his face. I moved back.

The idiot stood up and looked at me "Your gonna regret that" He said as he glanced at Jay then stumbled out of the bar.

I set down the darts on the table "You okay?" He asked me.

"Yea, he deserved it"

"Sorry about that" He said to me.

I chuckled "Maybe we should leave already"

"Yea, we can grab another beer at Molly's" He said grabbing his jacket from the chair.

"Okay" I grabbed my jacket from the other chair and put it on as we walked out.

~

"Did you really say that to him?" Jay asked me as he was laughing.

"I did! He was seriously the worst landlord I've ever had" I said laughing alone with him.

Gabby was cleaning a few glasses behind the bar. She walked over to Kelly who was sitting behind the bar. "Hey. Your sister seems pretty comfortable over there"

Kelly swallowed his drink and turned to see what Gabby was talking about. He noticed his sister smiling and laughing alone with Jay. He softly smiled as he turned back to Gabby "She's moving on" He grabbed his beer and took another sip.

I had my eyes peeled on my phone as I walked back to my desk. I set my phone down after sending a text message reply to Jay.

"Well look who decided to show up late" Sargent Connor said.

I took my jacket and glanced down at my watch "I'm like 2 minutes late. And I spend those two minutes walking in the door"

"How about walking faster next time Detective" He said to me as he walked away.

I rolled my eyes as I sat down on the chair. I moved the mouse to wake up my computer. My iPhone buzzed alerting me a text message was coming in. I looked around making sure my boss wasn't around before I picked up my phone. I opened Jay's text message and smiled as I began typing to reply. I locked my phone after sending it and set it aside. I began working on some files on the computer. It was time to start my day at work.

~

Later after work that evening I left and headed back to the apartment. I quickly showered and changed before I headed back out. Kelly wasn't home because he was still on shift. I had to park a few blocks down from where I was going. All I could hear were my heels clicking the cement as I walked.

I walked down the sidewalk as the dark blanket covered the sky. The only light was coming from the light post on the streets. I kept my eyes on my phone as I continued to walk. I locked my phone and slid it back into my back pocket of my jeans after about a minute. I felt like there were a pair of eyes watching me.

I tried ignoring it but I realized there wasn't anyone else around. I kept walking but I still felt like I had a pair of eyes watching me form behind. I slowed down and turned around but to my surprise I didn't see anyone. I suddenly got the chills. I kept walking and looking behind me making sure no one would pop out anywhere.

When I turned back I bumped into someone causing me to jump and I could feel my heartbeat beginning to race.

"Hey, are you okay?"

I nervously chuckled "Jay, yea I'm totally fine"

"You sure? You seemed kind of jumpy there"

I brushed a piece of my loose hair behind my ear "Yea, yea I'm fine. Come on"

Jay and I headed into the restaurant. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was still watching me.

~

After dinner Jay was going to walk me to my car but it was too close. So we ended up taking the long way through the park.

"So thank you for dinner, I haven't had a good decent steak for awhile. Most nights it's just microwavable pizza or.. microwaveable pizza" I said with a small chuckle.

I glanced at Jay and caught him with a small smile "You welcome. It's been awhile since I've have had a good meal too. With work being busy I haven't had much time to go out to a good restaurant"

I let out a gasp as I touched my chest "So I'm an exception. I feel so touched"

"You should be" He said with a small laugh.

I softly laughed as I stopped walking and turned to face him which caused him to stop "Wow okay, everything was going great until that small comment" I joked.

Jay moved his mouth downward "Okay, well maybe I can make it up to you" He said as he turned to face me.

"How?" I asked.

I noticed he was studying my face. He went from my lips to my eyes. I noticed he clenched his jaw. I swallowed nervously because I knew what he was going to do next. And sure enough he was slowly leaning in. I didn't know what to do next! His face kept getting closer to mine and I hadn't realized it but my face was getting closer too.

I could feel his breath on mine. Our lips were inches away and about to touch but Liam entered my mind. I moved my head down slightly before our lips could meet. I softly exhaled as we moved our heads back.

"I'm sorry" I whispered "I can't"

He stretched his forehead "No yea, I'm actually sorry I didn't know"

"No it's not you it's me. I just" I tripped over my next words "I just-just- I can't. I'm sorry" I didn't know what else to say next so instead of saying anything I just walked away.

The walking turned into a fast paced walk. Then by the time I knew it I was running. I was running away from what could be my future.

I slammed the front door as soon as I got home. I didn't know if Kelly was home and I didn't care. I ran to my room and walked inside. I shut the door behind me and leaned against it. Tears formed quickly as I slowly slid down the door.

I softly began to sob as sat against the door. I stretched my right leg and reached into my pocket. I continued to sob as I looked at the ring. "I'm sorry Liam, I'm sorry" I blinked my eyes and a few tears traveled down both my cheeks.
