"So are you excited to get back to work?" Jay asked as we lay in bed the next morning.
"Yes. I also picked up a shift for overtime tonight"
"You did?"
"Yea, I've been out for so long. Plus more money" I shrugged my shoulders.
He smiled at me "Okay. I'm gonna get some coffee going"
I sighed "Okay"
He slipped out of bed and walked out of the room. I laid in bed for a few minutes just simply thinking. I picked up my head and looked towards the door when I heard Jay walk in. I sat up on the bed and raised up my eyebrows.
"Well hello" I said admiring him him as he stood shirtless.
He laughed as he walked further into the room approaching the bed. I sat up on my knees and dragged myself to the edge of the bed "You are a terrible influence. I suddenly don't want to go to work anymore"
He approached me and laughed. I ran my hands over his chest before wrapping my arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around my waist "We both have to work today"
"I know. But you walk in here shirtless how can you expect me to want to work"
He laughed again "Come on" He quickly pecked my lips before he pulled away.
~
"Well well, look who's back" Nathan voiced as I walked into the room "You just couldn't stay away can you?"
I laughed "Nope"
"Well I'm glad to say welcome home" He smiled at me as he approached me and hugged me.
I smiled as I hugged back. Once we pulled away I looked around "It's good to be back. I even picked up a shift for overtime tonight"
"Well look at that, I did too" He laughed "Extra money"
I nodded my head at him as I chuckled.
"Well look who it is" Lucas walked into the room holding a file.
"Hey Luke" I said as we hugged for a brief second.
"It's good to have you back" He said as we pulled apart.
I nodded my head with a smile.
"And you came back just in time. We got a case" Lucas said holding up a file.
Nodding my head I put my bag down at my desk before following them to the white board we had. The rest of our team walked in and greeted me.
Sargent Connor came out taking the file from Lucas and began explaining the case.
"So, we got 5 victims who all were reported missing all in the last month. We've only got 2 autopsies back, we are still waiting on the other two but it looks like they overdosed on some form of sedative" He explained as he put up the pictures of the victims.
"Overdosing on sedatives is a common thing but they were all reported missing?" I asked.
"That's what it appears to be. Now there's one victim at Med who survived the overdose. Just arrived a few hours ago. Cassie and Nathan go interview the victim while everyone else gets started on learning more about the other victims" Connor instructed.
Everyone got moving as Nathan and I walked out of the district and into the car.
As soon as we arrived at Med we walked in and headed to the victims room. I glanced around to see Will behind a computer. He sent a smile my way as I returned it. Upon getting to the victims room Dr. Manning walked out.
"She's still recovering so keep it quick"
We nodded as we walked into the room. The victim was sitting up on the bed.
"Hi, I'm Nathan and this is Detective Cassie. We'd like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind"
The girl lightly shook her head. She looked to be a teenager, maybe about 17 or so.
"Do you remember anything that happened?" I asked.
Nathan whipped out a pad and pen to write anything she said down.
She stared off into the distance before she began to speak "Not.. not really. It was dark most of the time. And-and they had a bag over my head. The last thing I remember is someone shoving drugs down my throat"
"How did you know they were drugs?" Nathan asked.
"Because I heard them talking about it. Two, I think three men were talking"
"Was there anyone else there?" I asked.
She looked like she was about to cry "I don't.. I don't.. I don't know"
"Okay, that's enough guys. She needs rest" Dr. Manning said as she walked in.
Nathan and I nodded as we backed away and walked out. We began making our way back to where we came from.
"Wow, forcing drugs down your throat.. harsh" I commented.
Nathan scoffed and hummed a yeah as we walked out. As we made it back we began our work.
The entire day was pretty rough. There was a 6th victim that was found. We spent the entire day working hard. But we kept coming up empty. By the end of the day Nathan and I were sitting at our desk that were right next to each other.
I was typing on my computer when I sighed "Can you imagine? Getting kidnapped then being forced to take so many drugs"
Nathan scoffed "I know, and these are young girls. They should've have to go through something like that"
I nodded my head.
Nathan glanced at his watch "Overtime is starting soon, you think we'd be able to continue the case without the team?" He asked.
I turned to him "Yea"
"Alright, let me go tell them" He stood up and walked away.
When he left I picked up my phone to send a quick text to Jay. Letting him know I was beginning my overtime work and the case we were working on.
I got a text back a few seconds later from him.
Nathan walked back and sat in his chair "Okay, let's get this guy" I looked back at my computer and we continued our search for the kidnapper.
~
Jay was done with his shift. After putting on his jacket he closed his locker.
"I think we deserve a few beers at Molly's" Adam said as he was sitting on the bench.
"I'm in" Atwater chimed in.
Jay nodded his head "Yea, me too"
Everyone left at their own pace. As Jay walked down the last step he began walking to the door. He past a few officers in uniform as he walked to the door. Upon walking out the door he walked down the stairs. The night sky was already covering the sky. The light post lighting up the streets and sidewalk. Jay walked down the last step and began walking on the sidewalk towards his car.
"Jay"
He heard a voice call him. He stopped and turned around. A woman walked up to him, the closer she walked the light hit her face more clearly.
"Maddie"
She slightly smiled "Hi"
Jay's eyes traveled down to her hand, that was touching her stomach.. her small round stomach. His eyebrows arched inward as he looked at her in a baffled expression. Was she...? And could he be...?
