Quiet Night

Beyond the hospital window, it was sunny. There was even a rainbow that appeared after a brief shower. It was a bright day but to Josh, it was stormy. He had to come to terms with the fact that he was leaving the world behind and his parents were losing their only child.

Rainbow was in the room but Josh did not acknowledge his presence. He laid facing away to hide his wet face.

“September will come to an end soon. I know this is hard for you but you have an important decision to make.” Rainbow broke the rhythm of quiet sobs.

Josh tried to subtly wipe his eyes on his pillow case and sat up. “I forgot the rules, do I have to start as a baby? If not, can I just go back to my parents?”
