Chapter 35: The last meal

MIRANDA 'S POV -

I nervously paced around my room upon hearing that the vampire king wanted to meet us at dinner. Did he know about Luce Mia? Did he know about the mixedbloods? Did he know that Damon had gone against his wishes to protect them?

Each of these scenarios would cause blood to spill and that was the last thing I wanted. Such thoughts had set off a trigger in me and being alone panicked me more.

So, I stepped out of my room, closing the door behind me to seek out any of my friends for comfort. But even I was unsure where to find them so, I aimlessly paced around the empty hallway.

But my feet came to an abrupt halt when I heard whispers. I inched closer towards the source of the sound.

"Yes, she has to be here. I know it. I can feel it in my blood.",the familiar icy voice made my breath hitch. But even though intimidated, I wanted to eavesdrop further. I might get ahold of some important information.

To my utter horror, the voice remarked," It's quite late now. I think we should stop here. Moreover, I have an appointment to attend.", the voice came closer but I remained rooted on my spot. Just a little more I wanted to hear,"Yeahhh. I will try to find out who she is at dinner. Ok bye.", I heard a deep sound as the voice paced to the corner of the hallway to where I was standing.

To my utter horror, I found my pulse quicken as I experienced a full blown panic attack and fell down on the floor. The realisation that the vampire king probably knew about Luce Mia being here didn't provide me any comfort as well.

My limbs began to go from shaking a little to violent trembling. Then I felt two hands roughly hoist me up through a twist of hallways and carry me into an unknown room. I wanted to cry out but couldn't due to my throat constricting.

Then I felt a slight ache on my wrist as I passed out.

Sometime later -

I woke up to the hazy surroundings of my room. I rubbed my eyes roughly trying to decide whether any of which I had gone through recently was a dream. Then, the familiar devious voice cut through the air, followed by a knock," Miss Miranda, come on you shouldn't keep a vampire waiting."

Weakly, I got down / out of bed and opened the door but instead I found Damon anxiously waiting," What's up with y'all? Why aren't you and Kendall at dinner? Are you all trying to get us killed by making the vampire king wait?"

WTH...was I going mad. What was that voice then?

KENDALL 'S POV -

I paced nervously in my room. Sending Ken away to attain some peace of mind was turning out to be an enormously regrettable decision every passing minute. My feet suddenly got rooted to the floor as the realisation sunk in deeper that if the vampire king recognised me after all these years, he would totally find out that Luce Mia is here. After all, what else could the presence of the two guardians together mean after all these years.

And if even we try to gain support from my mother; things would surely involve blood. " What on earth are you even doing?" Damon's sharp voice cut through," Do you deliberately want to invite trouble for us by being this late!?!", his voice sounded frantic and pleading at the same time. I immediately put on my bitch face at his voice trying to hide my vulnerability.

This had become a second nature to me after years of rigorous traning by my mother.

" Let's go.", I firmly uttered while walking past a bewildered Damon.

3rd person POV -

The vampire king sat at the long table eyeing Samarah, glaring every now and then at Damon and the rest of his friends had had him waiting a long ten minutes; according to him, an eternity.

The king's eyes gleamed red every now and then due to his rising temper but the girl in front of him sat as cool as cucumber. The vampire king now stared directly and hard at her trying to get a reaction out but the insolent girl just blurted out a flat," What? Got something on my face." The vampire king's thoughts got derailed by the girl's unexpectedly insolent remark. The sudden actions resulted in a hassle free entrance of the trio.

But the sound of the shifting chairs bought the only king in the room back to reality.

Fortunately, for the rest, the king's anger melted away due to reasons he couldn't comprehend. Quickly making his signature icy demeanour return, he casually asked," So, son since we are all here now introduce me to your friends."

Damon cut him off snarkily commenting,"Since when do you even care about something even remotely related to me or... well....", He paused noticing his undead father's dead glance and continued,"...whatever....since all of us are here anyways, let's just get this over with. So, to my left is doll ( he wittingly hid her actual identity)"

" Doll like she is indeed.", the king answered glancing at Kendall, making Damon roll his eyes to hell and back before continuing," To my right is Miranda and the one right across you is Samarah . All done, happy now?"

" Thanks for doing the bare minimum son. What do we present you for your atrocious facial expressions, the Oscar for dimwits.", the king bit back with a smirk. This made Miranda stifle a chuckle, much to Damon's annoyance.

"Her laugh is infectious.", the king thought smiling a little to himself. A split second later after which all the girls broke into loud laughter. But reminding themselves of the king's presence, they cut their laughter short. Then their smiles dissappeared at the next sentence they heard," Since Damon will be gone for a week on an official visit, I will be here to keep you all company."

And all of the members sitting at the table became aware by the king's devil like glances that this was a decision which everybody would adhere to until and unless they wanted to provoke something, they wouldn't be able to handle.
