Chapter 36: Samarah caught someone's fancy. Again.

DAMON 'S POV -

I sputtered on my own spit. This was an open death trap. But denying it left even less chances at life itself for us. The people here were strong and loyal but the mere existence of them was a treachery.

Samarah's condition was as delicate as anything and Luce Mia Omgsh!

The king should never know about her. I couldn't even send them to Kendall's mother immediately as this would create more suspicion and could even result in a clash amongst the clans. The situation was dire but I knew what I had to do. After all, the very foundation of my being is to protect.

3rd person's POV -

The entire setting had a sense of dread in it since the beginning and the temperature seemed to drop by a few degrees when the king announced his decision. His icy gaze scanned each of the anxious faces in the room as soon as the last sentence left his mouth, for some action of resistance.

Their mouths might have gone dry, their blood might have ran cold and their heartbeats might have fastened but none of them seemed to show signs of protest. Although, the vampire king could not read minds but he was exceptionally well versed in detecting body language and this ability came in handy to him at several times including now.

Nonchalantly, he glanced at Samarah, sipping his goblet of the metallic liquid resembling wine (although it was not) and took a long sip looking straight into Samarah's eyes. Two of the other girls flinched as the rustic smell hit their noses while Damon looked disgustingly at him.

But this mere girl Samarah didn't display any emotion. She drank her soup while looking his direction but discreetly avoiding his eyes. The king's mind had confusion as thick as fog surrounding it. But the endearing girl had definitely caught the attention of the bloodthirsty king.

He tried to make eye contact with her but she managed to dodge it everytime. The king liked her alertness and was impressed that she knew that commoners shouldn't look into the eyes of the royals; as (according to an old fable) royal vampire's can suck the life of other beings just by a mere look in the eyes.

His sharp gaze towards her softened. Clearing his throat he spoke up," Damon you will be leaving tonight by 8. Be ready."

Damon immediately threw him a sideways glance but moved his head in a slow nod, complying so easily that the king was left off - guard.

Normally, Damon would put up a fight with him but this man was pretty smooth and the king was in a good mood at the prospect of spending sometime with Samarah, without the looming figure of Damon analysing his every move. He was looking forward to tonight.
