Even though Mauve had wanted to take the guests by herself to the dining hall, somehow, Jael had gotten wind of her plan and was currently standing next to Mauve as she knocked on the door of Madeline's room.
She almost wished the poor woman wouldn't respond because she was sure she would get a fright as soon as she did, but there was no convincing Jael. She sighed—this was only making things worse. Madeline answered faster than the first time, and Mill didn't need to knock again. As expected, she reacted as though she had seen a ghost. Her face paled, and her hand clutched the necklace around her neck. Mauve didn't notice it until she grabbed it.
