Chapter 42: Gina’s Capture

Merriment had come to an end abruptly, sadly, as Gina watched the news. She let out a sigh as she gazed at the TV, noting the grim expression on the reporter’s face as she described many more vanishings and, horrifyingly, mauled corpses left out on the street. People weren’t guessing wild animals anymore; now it was speculated to be an uptick in serial killings. What else would explain it? Well, Gina knew, but no one else did. This knowledge weighed heavily on her.

If she told anyone, she would be putting Zaros in danger. Humanity couldn’t handle the truth. She was a top-end scientist with, generally, a good head on her shoulders. Sure, this all had come as a shock, but she didn’t run around screaming. She used her head, something that couldn’t be said for many of her fellow humans, unfortunately. The police would have a hard time actually finding the truth, too, as even the enemy was careful with their ridiculous killings.
