Chapter 36: Monster Tide-1

On my way to the City centre, I hooked up with Kamran and Joe. They were both fully geared and ready for battle.

Joe is also a spearman and carries identical weapons and armour as Kamran. I could see a sad face peeking out of their shop's window.

They lived on top of their blacksmith shop and the face peeking out was Kamran's sister. She looked worried since both of them are going to the battle.

Her mother was watching her husband and son leave from the first floor where their shop is located. She had a little hope on her face.

We all went to the City centre to know where the monster tide is coming from and where we need to defend ourselves.

Military soldiers will know about the location and go to the location directly. The warriors should first come to the City centre to know the location and the defence formation.

The monster tide is completely different from a horde. A tide not only has more monsters, but it will also have many types of monsters whereas a horde will have a maximum of two or three different monsters.

The monster horde will have up to tens of thousands of monsters while the monster tide will have hundreds of thousands of monsters.

Another difference is that when monster horde attacks, volunteers from the civilians can come to defend the city. But for a monster tide, it is different.

Every able-bodied man and woman should join the defence of the city to fend off the tide. If they have any kids less than fifteen years old, one elder can stay with them to take care of them.

That is the reason why Kamran's mother stayed back. His sister will not turn sixteen for another three months and they decided to have her mother stay back to take care of her.

We came to the City centre and waited for instructions. There were at least ten thousand people in this centre alone. There are many centres like this in the whole city and many more thousand will join us in this defence.

Ting, ting, ting...

After a few minutes, our holo watches sounded notifications coming to all of us. It shows us where to go and defend. We are to go to the north side and since I changed my profession to archer I was assigned to be on the walls of the city.

Kamran and Joe are to stay inside the wall on the ground as a backup for the military who are already positioned outside the city wall.

We got into the hundreds of military trucks that came in and went towards the north city wall. I was surprised to see this many people who are able to defend the city.

Last month during the horde, I didn't even see 10% of this many people coming to defend. If they hadn't come to defend against the tide, they will be been executed immediately after the tide is over.

Not only them but all the family members above the age of sixteen will be executed. But for the horde, it is not mandatory to defend. So, not many will come.

I got down from the truck and went to the wall where I was designated to stand and defend. I turned and saw a few buses picking up the civilians who did not come to defend themselves.

They will be sent to the bunkers that are strategically set to protect the people of the city if the city defence fails. There are hundreds of bunkers in the Central city more than enough to protect the entire population.

Turning around I saw the beast tide. The City walls were casting lights all around the place, even the sky was blazing with light as there will be flying monsters coming to join the attack.

Archers need to be careful of the flying monsters as they are easy to reach us. I am wearing the badge that was provided by the mysterious man on my chest.

I am standing directly above the city gates. There are about a hundred people standing near me and all of them are wearing the same badge as I am.

They are all at the Lieutenant stage or above. Their battle power is hundreds of times more powerful than mine. I am the only person in the specialist stage.

I found out that this badge represents Elites and we have a lot of offers than others. But I didn't know that there will be only a handful of Elites in a city with a population of over ten lakh.

It was near midnight when we saw the monster tide about five kilometres away from the wall. It was huge. I can calculate at least 50,00,000 monsters in this tide. We are outnumbered five to one.

But this city has defended far worse than this tide and has stood tall. This monster ride will be defended, but the losses on our side will be more.

"ARCHERS AT THE READY".

After thirty minutes I heard the sound and took my bow and stood ready.

"You crafted your weapon when you are still in the specialist stage?" said the boy standing next to me. He is in the mid-level lieutenant stage. His voice sounded a bit surprised.

He is right to be surprised. Most people will craft their gradeless weapons only after reaching the corporal stage. I was lucky to have met Kamran through whom I got the bow earlier.

"ARCHERS, FIRE AT WILL".

After another fifteen minutes, I heard the order and every archer started shooting their arrows. Each archer's arrow is unique. so they will be able to find the monsters they have killed once the battle is over.

My arrows are having yellowish-orange heads and tails while the body is black. I also started shooting my arrows, but I started a few minutes later than the others.

Since I have a short bow, its range is less than others, but my bow packs a punch much better than the others too.

There are a lot of explosions in the middle of the monster tide due to archers using various skills to kill the monsters. I also attacked using my special attacks to get more kills.
