Setting The Playing Field

Lunch was still in process but as me and the girl Lily jested back and forth with the witch in the middle of it. Now there's something I have to ask, "So, what abilities do you have?"

Talking to Lily, I raised my palm to my chests level, "You see my powers varies but they're not that important," I asked as I wanted to know if this human had any worth.

But in doing so I startled the witch, and continued saying as the human girl looked at me, "What I want to know is if you have any magical powers or know any martial skills?"

The human girl in front of me is named Lily, she's cheerful and not so gloomy despite what she's possibly wearing on her face. But what I noticed a lot more was how dependent on others she is, her acts and speech speak everything.

And asking her this the witch slammed her hands on the table, "CHARLIE!!!" she said breaking out eardrums, and looking at her as her voice shook everyone around us.

I looked to her saying, "What? I'm just curious?" I said as she was starting a scene an eyes were all on us now, I didn't do any of that with my question, yet she did.

"Your curiosity is seriously pissing me off! So stop it!"

Raising her voice more, others kept looking at us, but then the girl butted in between us saying, "Marry he's just talking about our characters in dungeons and dragons? Why are you getting so mad?" Lilly came in for the save.

And talking after her, "Exactly, we were talking about this dungeon and dragon earlier and I was just curious~" I said and she glared at me hatefully, she knew I wasn't talking about whatever that was.

And smiling and seeing me do so while Lily wasn't looking, it pissed her off even more and she was clenching her teeth as she knew I was up to something.

But yet she can't do ah damn thing.

So dropping the mischievous smile from my face, I mellowly said, "So there's no need to throw a pissy fit, unless there's something your not telling us, dear sister~"

The hate on her face grew and as I looked back to Lily who looked like she was getting anxious, I said, "Forget about her, she's just mean, so tell me about your powers?"

I said getting a rise out of all of this, and the witch can't do anything to me because what if I was genuinely talking about dungeons and dragons, she can't do anything.

And as Lily started talking about this cleric she's playing as I felt like she didn't have enough faith in her character? So with a little smirk and positivity, I whispered to her.

All in so I help her have more faith in her character~

And also so the witch couldn't hear us, and since the cafe is loud, it really does ensure me my secrecy, which I rather like, "How'd you like to learn a bit of magic from me so that you can understand your character a bit more?"

Whispering something to her, she gasped and lowered herself to whisper-yell back to me, "Can you really show me something like that! Like is it card magic? I didn't know you knew how to do something like that?!" she said very hyperactivly, getting me to chuckle.

Now that I have that seeded in her head, "I guess you can call it that? Do you want me to show it to you when we're done with school? I just need you to come get me, kay?"

I said and she got really excited.

I changed my mind on the guy I was going to make into my follower, I'm going to make him into my golem, oh and as for her, I need a dark priest if I'm going to have a following.

So why not teach her a thing or two~

"What are you two plotting?"

Hearing the witches voice we bounced back up, and lookin back over to her, "It's a secret" Lily giggled, but I can't have the witch ruining this, so I spoke of something.

"Lily wanted to take me out after school?"

I said and it shocked Lily as she actioned Innocently, but then paused as I poked her leg and then flicked it, getting her to not say anything against what I'm saying.

Which might work or not? But it got her to be quiet.

"You said something about a book right?"

I said looking over at her and she was starting to get flustered, but with the both of us looking at her, she bit part of her lip and then said looking at me.

And then pinching my thigh, probably mad at me.

"Yeah, there's this new shop that opened up near the mall and I wanted to go with Charlie there, though I wished he would have been quiet about it, as I just wanted us to go"

Saying that, the witch looked at the two of us and frowned.

"I'm coming with. Wherever he goes, I'm coming"

She said sounding super clingy and growing quietly, I lookt at her and with a fake smirk said, "No, not this time, it's just between the two of us, think of it as two people only"

I said not knowing how to express it, and as she looked at me with a frown, she looked at Lily, "You understand I have to come right, I am his big sister, you get it... Right"

Giving her a scary look as she gave a vile look, "Y-Yes" she scared Lily seeing as she gave in so quickly, and then I sighed, "Okay fine, but don't expect much, witch"

I said and she gave me a death stair..

Oops, did I say witch?

No, never~

Looking back at her, "You're going to drive us, right? Thank you" I just said out of nowhere as she's going to have to be our ride now, maybe, she might, in plan R maybe.

"You're a pain in my ass, Charlie"

"You wanted to tag along?"

Looking back over to Lily, "While where out, wanna show me around, I can't remember the last time we went out together, so wanna be my tour guide, Lily dear~"

Saying that and getting her cheeks a little pink, "Yeah, sure I guess I don't mind Charlie..." she said looking down and twiddling her thumbs, she looks so timid, good.

Her guard's down, so she won't expect much.

Now that's the best part of right now.

I guess the witch tagging along might be a good thing.

But let's see? How much of my powers can I reach right now? Calming my breath and searching my being, I felt my strength low but not depleted, I'm at 16% right now.

Back when I went back in the first class, I was lower than 7%, I guess the sleep and not using anything recovers it.

Because it's been like 2 hours maybe a bit more and I'm back at a lesser but decent amount, I wonder how much one of my Earth Skills cost, I'll have to test it out when I'm back at 100%, until then I won't use it that much for now.

*Bell Ringing!*

A loud ringing came to ear and as it startled me, I'm not used to that sound, it sounds like an insect demons war cry, I absolutely hate it, it's so freaking irritating.

Suddenly I felt a pinch at my shirt, "Charlie, let's walk to class together, I forgot my bag back in the classroom so do you wanna come with me there too?" Lily asked.

And seeing this as a chance to get away from the witch I compiled, taking this as an advantage and leaving her here at the table as we left soon after Lily asked me to go with her.

Ditching the witch we walked around the school to get her things and then went to our 3rd class for today? It was boring and so sitting next to Lily I goffed around.

It was nice having someone to talk to.

Also we plotted an escape to ditch the witch.

So she takes something called a bus home from school so she was going to meet me up at the bus lot and we were going to take her bus and go to her place to hang out.

I changed the whole theme from me showing her "card magic" to the witch and us going to the "mall?" Now to us trying to get away from the witch and just ditching her.

It turned into a little game and after the class was over, we walked and talked till we got to my class since hers was next to mine? And I went in, only to see the witch...

She's also in this class?

Seeing her she noticed me, and signaled me down, but it only meant that the mission to get away from her only went up in difficulty, and so as I saw her and she waved me down and motioned for me to sit next to her again.

I looked over to an antisocial kid who looked to be sitting along and not talking to anyone and I went over and sat next to him, talking and getting to know him along with ignoring the witch, who got mad that I ignored her.

And yet she didn't do anything?...

That put me on edge and made me raise my guard.

Also, so the antisocial kid I was talking to was named Marc Halbreathe, just as I thought before he was antisocial and he had anxiety when it came to talking to others and making friends, nice guy, kind of boring though.

Though I'd rather hang out with him than Charlie's creepy friends, something about them ain't right? Plus they all kind of resemble the witch, who I can only presume her face to not actually be that candle white? I hope not.

It's too close to those undead freaks...

Plus it just creeps me out, even Lily creeps me out.

Anyways, wasting time with Marc here, I noticed that he wore a pendant, and asking about it, he told me that he was an inner member of his church and they all wore it.

That put a smile on my face, how interesting.

"I guess you're going to have to take me with you sometime"

"I mean, if you really wanna go, public church is Sunday?"

"Great! I guess I'll see you there huh?!"

"I mean, I guess?"

"Aw don't be like that man, keep your head up, Kay"

"I'll try, please don't expect much from me..."

He says but I expect a lot from him, he's a valuable price to me now, unless the church lands burn me, than I might just have to burn it down, but if not, then I guess he'll be there.

What I mean by that, is he'll be an important piece to me.

I know it'll be easier to convert those god followers into something more, because the gods are less interactive to those lower in the hierarchy there in the allfathers house.

The hierarchy goes like archpriest, priest, heavenly monk, inner disciples, outer disciples, then everything under that isn't really important because they have no holy powers to fight with, they're just the followers.

"It's hard not to, so don't put yourself down"

I said cheering him up as he was putting himself down too much and I can't have that of him, not now at least, he's going to be important to my other objectives.

Which are just making a following of my own.

I don't offer much but I'm way better than the gods.

Seeing as I can offer them a few magical techniques, and the protection of me, so if someone messes with my people then I'll come to slaughter them.

That's how these things work right?

Sorry I'm more of a traveler and trickster in the abyss, I like going around and seeing new things in the abyss, and not to get bored I usually end up messing with the annoying.

But enough of me, I'm off limits.

Back to this guy, Marc.

"... I'll try"

"Hahaha, good, if not for yourself, then do it for me!"

But looking at me "Why?" he asked.

"Because you're my friend and I enjoy talking to you!"

I said making his expression change completely.

I guess that's something he'd never expect to hear?

"Friends? Really?"

"Sure thing! If you don't mind he my friend?"

I said, and he shot up, "Of course I don't mind! You're really cool, so hell yah I don't mind being friends!" he said, and those were the words I really wanted to hear.

"Good~"

We continued talking for a while and the teacher didn't even bother us, we chatted casually up until the bell rang again which seriously annoyed me, and once it had.

"See you man!"

As everyone started gathering their things, I rushed out of the room, wait? I never gave him my name? Damn, anyway, going down the hallway and making sure the witch wasn't on my tail, I asked someone where the busses were.

And then went to the bus lot where I was there before Lily.

Waiting for a minute I saw her and we left the campus on one of those Yellow metal rectangles, geeze, I forgot to think of an excuse encase I was caught up here though.

Apparently unless you were signed up you weren't supposed to take a bus, but the driver seemed pretty chill so I guess I didn't need to worry.

After that, we just waited and spoke till we got to her stop.

Which took a while...

But when we did and no one bothered us up there, we got to her stop and got off, and when we had, I smile came across my face as this next part had 2 outcomes.

1. It goes horribly right.

2. It goes horribly wrong.

I'm just hoping it's not any of them now.

"That was so scary, I thought you'd be caught for sure"

"Nah, I don't think he even thought about me~"

"Well, we were very quiet about it"

"Mm-hm, super quiet"

But then she turned around after I said that, "Oh yeah, I don't think any of you have ever been to my place? It's usually at yours, or Finn's? So welcome to my house!"

She said and oh, I guess that means she knows where I live then? Good to know, and hearing that from her, "Thanks for having me over, now let's get inside, I wanna show you something really, really cool" I said reminding her.

And she jumped, "Oh yeah! That magic trick?!"

"Something like that~ But you're close enough"
