Chapter Two
While Dot is working on her scan I started running my own check with my ship making sure everything is good to go, just encase we get some unwanted surprises and we're not a dead ship sitting in space. Weapons system, check, life support, check, targeting systems, check, NLS drive is operating but showing weird diagnostics, going to have to run our own test to make sure its good to go, engine's as well. I'll start with the engine first that way I know we can at least move. System is running diagnostics, start checking the glimmer production module, making sure that I can make glimmer or were really in trouble.
Fuel showing at 82% and glimmer storage is 48% full. Engine simulation showing that engine output has been pushed to 200% while fuel consumption is showing 70% consumption.
So we'll be going twice as fast with a little less fuel usage, how did that happen, don't have a clue. Glimmer module showing its in working condition no abnormalities for me to worry about. Lets transfer some glimmer into fuel just to make sure, huh it should have been a one to one ratio, I should have used 18% glimmer to completely fill up my fuel. but i only used 9%... HOW!?
What did the Hive and Vex do!? No, it muss be the Hive magic, Vex wouldn't have been able affect the whole ship like this. The Hive must have used sacrificial magic to make the portal and I guess the ship is using the sacrifices during the exchange of anything. Glimmer, fuel, power, anything that takes an exchange of one thing to make it something else has been boosted... at least that's my working theory. Either I use half of my resources or I produce twice as much as I should with them. God Eris Morn would probably try to steal my ship if that's the answer.
"Aeon" ah I guess Dot's done, "I ran the scans like you said but still nothing, it just doesn't make any sense." Looking away from my screen's "there's nothing at all, nothing that stands out to give us some sort of clue of where we are?"
"Well, there is something that I have been picking up, but I've been putting it off to try to find where we are." "Well what do you have?" "There's this weird anomaly, its giving me readings that are not making any sense." She opens up a new screen on the monitors, "well how weird of an anomaly" looking at the monitor, I see an asteroid or something with its readings... wait.
"Every so often its mass changes" taking a closer at her scans I see what she means, but that doesn't make any sense. "Your right, that doesn't make any sense, its close enough for me to get closer so we can check it out, but this doesn't help us in the long run Dot." "I know, all I think I can do now is send out signals to see what we get, but there's no knowing whats out there right now."
I've locked on the asteroid and have the ship approach on a slow intercept course, "for right now Dot just open up our transmissions, but don't send anything out lets see if we catch anything firs." she turns to look at me shaking her head up and down, though her whole body is her head... "yes your right that's probably the safest option right now, I'll also start setting up extra security just an encase something or someone does see us." Giving her a nod head of my own I turn to look at the asteroid as we slow on approach.
The asteroid looks like any other out there. Yet when I'm scanning it, its mass is changing, never staying as one true mass. Which yes this is a nice diversion, I can see that Dot is getting ready to open our channels to see what we can get, I log the asteroid for later study and get ready for any type of trouble this might cause.
"Ok Aeon, opening up channels, lets see what we get... " her voice sounds hopeful, by the light I hope this doesn't come back to bight us. "Alright I got something, wow it looks like are transmission signals got a boost as well, I never could have looked that far before." She opens up a new screen showing that its in a new system that's at least a jump away, or it should be with whats happened to the NLS drive. All simulations are show that we have an FTL travel of a thousand light years per day. "Well Dot I guess we get to test out the new NLS drive speed..." "are you sure that's a good idea?" shaking my head at her "no but what other choice do we have?" She just gives me this look for all of a second then gives me on determined nod "very well then Aeon, lets do this."
The jump is showing me that this would take a day and a half at most, I set in the coordinates and get myself ready mentally. Turning back to Dot "it says this trip well take a day and a half to get there, I want everything we can have scanning everything we can, I want engine's, the drive core, the ship, everything, hell even space itself to see whats going on around us while we are in jump ok?" she immediately starts going around activating anything she thinks we might need or want while I'm saying this. "You got it, oh this is going to be so exciting, a brand new way of space travel, oh I hope everything goes well and we find a way to bring this to humanity." "Me to dot, me to."
Doing one last check, making sure I've punched in the right coordinates, nothings in our way, everything showing we are good to go "alright Dot I'm good on my end how about you?" "I'm ready over here." "in three, two, and one... "
The ship shudders and my view point starts to blend into one massive white blur of all the stars and space just passing us by. The view is like any other time I've activated the drives before, but the ship, I can feel it, it's hard to explain but when the ship started to shudder I just knew and felt that we are taking off at a speed we've never done before. "Dot, everything ok so far?" she comes back to hover near me and starts checking everything she can all while excitingly proclaiming "oh light, everything fine, its more then fine, these readings are amazing, so far from what I can see Aeon those calculations were off by a little- How little is little Dot- no by much don't worry, it should take us a day at most not a day and a half like it says."
She's at another monitor now "the ship is doing fine, but the systems are going to need to be re-calibrated once when exit our jump." Looking around her so I can see the reading for myself "no problems so far, that's good, but we need to keep an eye on everything Dot." "I know, I know don't you worry I'm not missing anything right now."
Well seeing as everything so far is looking good I take a moment to just look out side the command view port and take it all in. Hopefully whatever we are heading to will give us the answers we need to make it back home.
