Chapter 19-Death from Below

Does Ryder even realize that hiding is just as bad as lying?!

We are about to be married, and he should include me in everything, just like I tell him everything. How did he not tell me something as huge as the doctor being pregnant with his child? And then something as small as building this new home as a fortress, even though he promised me he would not.

Ryder must feel my gaze on the back of his head because he stops and turns slightly. Freddie quickly breaks the tension by clearing his throat. Ryder continues to walk, and Freddie continues to speak.

"Thank goodness the walls and palm scanner still need to be installed. We can walk right into the room, and I hack my software to get into the system and find out what's wrong with the generators. Shouldn't take me that long."

"Okay, the room is this way," Ryder says, handing us a gun. I tuck mine behind my pants, and Freddie holds it under his flashlight like a pro.

"Are guns necessary?"
