Chapter 16: Protecting Ravine

(Ravine POV)

So it's official, I am a freak.

Not only did I make Nick's nose bleed, I also burnt my fucking hand and there's no way that it can be called a regular accident.

The teacher said that the reason why the flame went up like that was because of a minor gas leak. How stupid is that? Minor gas leak my ass! There was no gas in the air. It's clear that there was a supernatural occurrence in the lab and that has something to do with me.

So if I am a freak with supernatural powers, I have to learn how to reel it in in order to avoid hurting other people. Who knows what could happen next? If I don't take control of this, it's definitely going to be dangerous.

I looked at myself in the mirror and I just see a normal looking boy. Why can't it be that way? Why do I have to be different? Life is hard enough as it is.

Then I heard some banging on the window. I looked out to see J.J. waving at me. My heart skipped a beat. All of my stress have been forgotten when I saw his face. I quickly opened it and let him in.

"You could have just knocked at the entrance, you know."

"But you said Sister Blanche doesn't allow guests after 9." He said.

"Oh yeah, I remember."

"Anyway, how have you been? Are you okay?" He asked.

"It still hurts, to be honest."

"What happened?"

I couldn't tell him. I couldn't tell my crush that I have supernatural powers. He'll think I am crazy.

"I just burnt myself with the Bunsen burner in the lab."

"Ravine, you have to be careful next time." He said and J.J. looks legitimately worried for me.

"Let me see." He said. I lent him my hand for him to take a look. He then kissed it softly which sent me into a blushing mess.

"What was that for?" I asked.

"Mom always used to say that kisses help wounds heal faster."

"I love your mom."

"Do you mind if I stay for the night?" He asked.

"I don't mind at all. I really missed you."

"I missed you too." He said.

J.J. and I basically chat and conversed with each other the whole night. There was no hint of awkwardness at all between us. We're very comfortable with each other's presence already.

The fact that he visited just to check on me says a lot about him as a friend and as a person. Honestly, is there anything missing in J.J.? He's got the looks, he's got the heart, he's got the passion, he's a great athlete, he's very family oriented and he's a loyal friend. He'll be there for you.

"How was your family by the way?" I asked.

"Pardon?"

"You said you are going to be gone for a week to solve your family stuff."

"Oh that, everything's actually going quite well for me and my family. I'm glad I skipped a week for it." J.J. said.

"I am so happy to hear that." I said.

"How about you? How's your family?" He asked.

"They're fine. I really miss them badly though. I guess I have been a little homesick for a while now."

"We could visit them for the holiday if you want." J.J. said.

"We? You're going to come with me?"

"Why not?"

"You're okay with riding the train overnight?" I asked.

"Of course, I am. I'd do anything just to meet your parents." He said.

Ugh! Why does he have to be such a charmer?

----

(J.J. POV)

I woke up to the pungent smell of something and I most definitely know that smell.

A rogue is lurking around right now and what made me even angrier is that it's just near us right now. It's near me and my mate.

My protective instinct was activated instantly. I got up the bed without waking Ravine up. I pulled the blanket over him before giving him a kiss on the forehead. I then jumped out of his window and transformed into my wolf form.

I did my best to follow the scent of the rogue who's stalking us. I sprinted through the forest until I finally managed to tackle him.

"What do you want from us? What do you want from my mate?" I asked.

"To have his blood all over me." He answered.

"I am going to kill you." I said before mauling him to death. I managed to rip his head off easily before running back to the pack house.

---

"J.J., where have you been?" Dad asked.

"I killed a rogue." I said.

"What?!" Mom exclaimed. "How did that happen?"

"He was roaming around near my mate."

"Wait! Hold on, first of all, where were you?" Dad asked.

"I was with Ravine. I was spending the night with him when I smelled something strong. I realized it was the scent of a rogue. I got protective of my mate so I chased the rogue down the forest. I asked him what he wants and he said it was Ravine's blood all over him. That did it for me so I decapitated him in cold blood."

"Welcome to the Alphahood, son. That's how the life of an Alpha goes." Dad said.

"But what does he want from my mate?"

"That's for you to find out, son. From now on, you have to be more watchful for your mate because you already know that one of the rogues is after Ravine."

"I will."

See, this is what my father is talking about from the beginning. This is probably the reason why he was so hard on me. He doesn't want me to let my guard down when it comes to rogues. Rogues will do everything in their power to weaken an Alpha, even to the extent of killing their Luna just so they can win the war against a pack. I will not let that happen.

Mom's words kept running through my mind:

Son, anytime now, you're going to know who your mate is. You have to take this seriously because this is no walk in the park. We're dealing with a powerful group of enemies here and if you keep slacking off, you might fail to protect your pack and your future Luna. Are you going to let that happen?

Over my dead body!
