Are You Sure?

He arrived there and pushed aside the rest of the criminals who were surrounding someone on the floor.

"What's going-" He halted speaking the moment his eyes fell on an old-looking criminal on the floor with a spell book in his hand.

He squatted down and grabbed the book, then looked at it.

His brows wrinkled on seeing that it was a spell book.

What exactly would a prisoner be doing with a spell book?

He wondered and stood up on his feet.

He ordered the guards to get Celvit, and once he arrived in the cell, Luthiel showed the prisoner to him.

"What is wrong with him?" He asked.

Celvit looked at the prisoner and squatted down.

He grabbed the prisoner's hand, and his eyes instantly narrowed, no longer feeling his pulse.

He touched his neck and turned his head to look at Luthiel.

"He is…dead." He announced, and a slight frown appeared on Luthiel's face.

"What do you mean?" He questioned.

"I am not sure, but it seems something that has to do with sorcery must have killed him. I don't see any physical injury on his body that may attest to abuse, so... it has to do with sorcery. Also, there is no sign of poisoning."

He explained, and a confused expression emerged on Luthiel's face.

"Did any of you witness him commit any act that has to do with sorcery?" He turned to the inmates, and they shook their heads at him.

"No."

Luthiel let out a soft breath and turned his head to look at Celvit.

"See to the disposal of the body." He ordered, and Celvit nodded.

He walked out of the cell and proceeded upstairs toward his chambers.

He stepped inside and met Damian seated at the table with his head bent.

"Damian!" He called.

Damian raised his head to look at him and yawned. "Did you find the Lamora?" He inquired.

Luthiel shook his head at him and walked up to him.

"I want you to look at something." He handed the spell book to him, and with sleepy eyes, Damian glanced at the book.

"What is this?" He asked.

"A prisoner just suddenly died in the cell, and he had this book in hand." He explained.

Damian grabbed the book and flipped it open.

He looked at the pages, and his brows instantly creased. "Um, who is this prisoner?"

"He's one of the slaves that I brought in last time." Why do you ask?" Luthiel inquired.

"Well, he might just be the culprit we are looking for." He announced, and Luthiel's heart instantly skipped a beat.

"Are you sure?"

"Well, the spell to invoke a Lamora is in this book, and like I told you, whoever did that to Yennefer is close to us." He clarified.

"That…does not make sense to me. Why would a mere prisoner want to hurt her? They have never even met her." He inquired in bewilderment.

"That's where I am perplexed as well. But there's no need to worry about that right now. The prisoner is dead, so Yennefer is safe now."

He shrugged, and Luthiel arched his brow at him.

"Safe? Does that mean she will wake up?"

He inquired, and Damian nodded his head.

"Yes, she will." He replied with a half-smile on his face.

"That's a relief. What do we do about the Lamora?" Luthiel asked.

"Hmm, it's dead. Once the person who invoked it dies, it perishes as well."

Damian clarified, and he walked towards Yennefer.

"When will she wake up?"

"Hmm, in the morning, at the latest. It won't take too long."

He replied, and Luthiel let out a whiff of relieved breath.

"I see. I will wait then." He smiled lightly and laid his head down on the bed.

Damian rested his head on the table, and in a short time, they all slowly dozed off.

———

The early morning sun rose, and its rays shone into the room through the window.

The first person to wake up was Luthiel, and as soon as he did, he glanced at the bed, hoping to finally see Yennefer awake, but unlike what he had hoped, she still turned out to be unconscious.

"Yennefer…" He called, but no response came from her.

He touched her, but no response came as well.

His eyes fluttered in puzzlement, and he turned to look at Damian, who was still sleeping soundly with his head resting on the table.

He walked towards him and slapped him on the back of his head.

"Hey! Wake up!"

Damian rubbed his head and slowly blinked his eyes open.

"What was that for?" He hissed.

Luthiel pointed towards Yennefer and arched his brow at him.

"You said she would wake up, at the latest, this morning, so can you explain why she's still unconscious?" He questioned.
