Chapter 49: Loss

A freezing rain that eventually turned to snow started the day out; a fitting tribute, really, for the man who could be both harsh and nurturing at the same time. They all were bundled up tight, each at a different grave. Russel had, before the war was declared officially, bought an entire section of the graveyard for those that would fall. Some humans gave them side-eyes for burying wolves in a human cemetery; most ignored them, though…it wasn’t that unusual for people to bury pets.

Few words were spoken, though each did have some memories of the fallen. They had all agreed they would share them later, once they didn’t have to worry about the humans overhearing. Let the mundane think those that had died were just simple animals. There were plenty of tears though, to make up for the lack of words. After all, there were members from each pack there, so everyone had lost somebody close to them.
