Chapter 25

Meanwhile, Hybreed arrives at Huntsman Hill, the place his father told him about. The wound on his stomach has healed and the night sky is clear with the stars shining and the moon giving light to the ground. Falling to his knees, he calls out to Kargan, but gets no reply.

Hybreed: Tell me what I need to do!

Tears fall down his face as he breaks down, feeling powerless.

Kargan: Hybreed.

Looking up from the ground into the sky, he doesn't see anything at first. His breathing becoming shaky as tears stream down his face. A bright light shines, and a figure emerges from it. His father.

Hybreed: Father?

Standing to his feet, Hybreed approaches him and to ensure he is real, he places his hand on his shoulder and confirms he is very real. Kargan smirks at him and the two embrace in a hug.

Kargan: You have gotten stronger since I last saw you. You continue to grow with every second, my son.

Hybreed: I'm lost, father. I need your guidance.

Kargan: You're not lost, my son. You're just - confused. The girl you once knew is gone, consumed by the Enchantress. You know what you must do to end this.

Hybreed: We don't kill, father. It's the covenant.

Kargan: My covenant. I am no longer king, Hybreed. You are and what you do with your covenant is your decision and yours alone.

Hybreed: I have been taught to not ever kill unless necessary.

Kargan: And this is a necessary evil, Hybreed. It is an evil that must be stopped, and you will not be killing a human, but a being of another power.

Hybreed: I can't. I won't. Despite all that she has done, I know, I can feel Katherine inside of that - that creature.

Kargan: I know you want to believe, but you saw it and you need to be strong. Not just for them, but for yourself. The world needs you. It needs you to be strong.

Kargan places his hand on Hybreed's chest and all the kings that have passed on before him appear and circle around him, transferring their power to him. Feeling the power entering him, Hybreed opens his eyes to now be a bright reddish color as he roars into the night sky and is now taken the form of a wolf king. Standing to his feet, he looks around and all the spirits of the kings are gone and Kargan remains there with him.

Kargan: I will always be with you, my son.

And Kargan's spirit vanishes as Hybreed remains there by himself, breathing heavy then turns to see Konnor, Nikita and Jasper waiting for him. He takes one last look into the night sky at the brightest star then departs.
