Chapter Twenty-Seven

The sound of water flowing and the deep breathing of something gigantic woke Sophia from her slumber. The smell of mud and the distinct smell of wet dog permeated her nose as she slowly opened her eyes.

A blinding light flashed into her eyes as she cracked them open, making her shut them tightly against the blinding sun above her. She groaned as she turned herself over onto her stomach and tried opening her eyes again, this time, facing the ground.

It took her a while to get her eyes to adjust to the light outside, but when she did, she could see a stream of brown water flowing no more than a couple of feet from her head. Her dry mouth and throat begged for the water next to her at this point; she didn't care what the water looked like as long as it would satiate her dry throat.
