Cousin From Abroad

After eating, I got up and went to the living room. Picking up my car keys, I stood next to the door my hand on the handle as he called me from behind, "Pearl?" his voice soft.

"Hm?" I hummed in response to indicate I was listening.

"Could you drive me to work?" he asked and as I looked over at him, I saw that he was making a cute face, his inquiring eyes looking at me with expectation.

"Uh, well, sure, yeah! I'll drive you." I said opening the door and walking out, getting a smile as a reply from him.

Getting in, I started the car as he sat and buckled his seatbelt.

The car was quiet till we passed by my workplace, as I asked, "Do you want me to pick you up after work?"

"Can you?" he asked sweetly, and I couldn't help but comply.

"Sure, when are you getting off?" I asked, my voice calm as I focused on the road.

"I'm supposed to get off at six, but they will probably make me get off at two or three." I looked over to see that he had a small smile on his face.

"Okay. I'll come pick you up by three." I said pulling over in front of the company building.

"Okay. I'll see you after work!" he said cheerfully as he got off. I drove back towards the way I came but drove a bit slowly.

Right as I turned the corner, I stepped on the gas, practically zooming into the parking lot.

Getting out, I calmed myself down. Taking my bag from the back seat, I walked through the parking lot up to the marble steps of the building.

Walking in, I went over and stepped into the empty elevator, pressing the button to the nineteenth floor.

The company I work for is called 'Clear Cloud Designers', a company with hundreds of designers for things like clothes, shoes, jewelry, buildings, and a lot more.

Stepping off, I opened the door right in front and went in. Putting my bag down on the table, I sat down in the chair behind the desk and picked up a few design files that were sitting on the table.

*knock**knock* Someone knocked outside.

"Come in." I said, putting the file I was holding down, and looking towards the door.

The door opened and my assistant, June, AKA my bestfriend, walked in.

"The Boss wants to see you." She said, putting another round of files down on my table.

*Sigh* "What does he want now?" I said with an exhausted sigh.

"Don't know, but he sounded very serious." She said, roaming around the room with her hands in her pockets. "You'd better get going though."

"Yeah, I should, I'll see you in a bit." I said, glancing up at the clock above my chair to see it was already 1:30 pm.

Walking back I stepped onto the elevator and pressed the button to the twentieth floor, the highest floor.

I knocked on the door, and opened it as I heard the 'come in'. My boss, Mathew, about to hit thirty with his black hair and blue eyes, was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the huge city.

"You wanted to see me, sir?" I said, looking past him through the window.

"Yes, I have a favor to ask of you, Pearl." he said, turning back and walking over to the small sitting area.

"What is it, sir?" I asked, looking over at him, still standing in front of the door.

"Please, drop the formalities, Pearl, and come sit down, you standing there makes it look like I bully my coworkers." Matthew said, relaxing into a chair and munching on a cookie.

*sigh* "What kind of favor is it now?" I asked, sitting down in a chair opposite him.

"You might already be aware that a cousin of mine is coming from abroad next week." he said, picking up one of the files that were on the table and flicking through it.

"Hmm, so?" I said, raising a brow at him.

"I'd like you to take care of him as a trainee." he said, flicking through another file.

"Wait, what?! Trainee?! But you never let me have a trainee! So why now?" I asked, looking at him in shock. The last time I was entrusted a trainee, she resigned in just three days.

"Well, my cousin is a special case." He said, now sipping on a cup of coffee leisurely.

*Sigh* "Fine, but if he leaves, remember that it was you who assigned him to me." I said, picking up the other mug of coffee and sipped on it.

"Fine, whichever way you have it." he said back, relaxing in his chair.
