Stopping the car in front of the building, I sat and waited till David got down and sat in.
Driving back up the road, we sat in silence till we entered the street leading up to the house.
"Pearl?" David said, looking at me from the passenger seat.
"Yes?" I answered, turning the wheel into the street as we reared the crossing.
"Uhmm, how was your day?" he asked, his voice nervous as he fiddled with his thumbs.
"It was surprisingly good, I'm getting a trainee next week. How was yours?" I asked, a warm smile blooming on my face as I looked at his soft expression through the mirror.
"Kinda boring really, I just sat there the whole time and signed a few papers. They wouldn't even let me get up to go to the canteen and had to get my coffee changed five times." he said, lowering his head in despair as I let out a small chuckle.
"Don't laugh at me!" he said, turning to face me again with a pout.
"Okay, I'm not laughing, I'm not laughing." I said, with a huge smile on my face.
Parking the car in the garage, I took my bag from the back seat and looked at David, "C'mon, let's get inside now." I said, my door and getting off.
Walking up to the front door, I knocked a few times and waited for Mrs. Gray to open the door. David followed in pursuit and stood next to me on the doorstep.
The door unlocked and Mrs. Gray bowed us in. "Welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Myers." she said, stepping aside and holding the door open.
Stepping inside, David went straight for the bedroom as I walked behind Mrs. Gray to the kitchen.
"Won't you be resting, Mrs. Myers?" Mrs. Gray asked as I sidestepped her into the kitchen.
"No, I'm feeling just fine. I'm in the mood for baking, so you wouldn't mind if I used the oven while you worked, would you, Mrs. Gray?" I responded, as I wore an apron and turned to her.
"Not at all, Mrs. Myers. I will just be cleaning the lounge and kitchen. Take your time" Mrs. Gray said, and took out a feather duster from the cabinet and walked out of the kitchen.
In about fifteen minutes, I put the dish into the oven and turned on a timer for thirty minutes.
I picked up my book from the table and went to read in the lounge as I waited. A little while later, David came down and looked over at me.
"Is Mrs. Gray baking something?" He asked as the delicious aroma wafted in from the kitchen.
"Nope." I said just as the timer started ringing. "I'll go and check it." I said and got up.
Back inside the kitchen, I opened the oven to check on the pie. I took it out of the oven and put it on the counter.
It was perfectly cooked, so I went and grabbed a knife and spatula.
Just then, David came into the kitchen, curiously looking here and there.
"You need something?" I asked, walking back to the counter.
"Are you baking?" He asked, standing behind a chair at the table.
"Yeah, you want some?" I asked holding up a plate with a slice.
"Ooo, yes please!" He said cheerfully, sitting down at the table as I walked over and put the plate in front of him.
I looked at him for a few seconds and then remembered something. Quickly, I pulled the plate away before he could start eating.
"Hey!" he looked over at me with a pout. "Pearl."
"Don't look at me like that." I said looking at him with a worried expression, "Heck, did you forget that you're allergic to blueberries?" I scolded, putting the plate away.
