Drama with a capital D

Ivy stands next to April as Meredith walks up to Alex, "So they're probably gonna fire me. Are you happy?"

They all look up, "Oh, come on. They're not gonna-"

"I want your crap out of my house by the end of the day," She walks away.

"What the hell was that?" Cristina asks before they all get paged.

They meet Webber and Owen in the main lobby, "A 757 went down in the sound. We're looking at about 20 injured passengers. We're the designated crisis center. Families will be instructed to come here to find their loved ones. We are activating surge protocol. Dr. Hunt is going to be running the show. It's gonna be chaotic. You need to listen carefully. You need to stay focused. Do not contribute to the panic. Now get to your statations."

Ivy, the other residents, and attendings follow Dr. Hunt and Dr. Bailey, "Dr. Bailey, lets clear any beds that we can. Discharge or transfer."

"Okay, uh, Grey," they head off.

"All right, Torres, you'll be with me. Little Shepherd with us, Kepner, set up the E.R. for triage. Other Grey, I want you running the family center. Take over in the cafeteria. Yang, blood bank," Owen directs.

"We'll probably need a candyman," Ivy says, looking over the clipboard Owen handed her.

Owen nods, "Dr. Sloan will be our candyman. Let's be liberal with pain meds for our victims and sedatives for patients that we are moving. Avery, you can help him out. Let's move, people."

Ivy follows Callie to the E.R. and starts moving patients, "Seattle Pres can't take any more. Start calling County."

Ivy moves to the desk by Owen to help making calls and organizing the flow of traffic. Mark calls for Jackson but gets told to wait a minute.

"Whyd you give me that guy in the middle of a mass trauma?" Mark asks.

"Avery?"

"The kid quit Webbers study. What kind of idiot decides working with the Chief of Surgery is to taxing on his schedule?" Mark pokes fun of him.

Ivy speaks up, "Mark. He didn't quit because it was to much work. He quit because of his last name and the award associated with it. Yes it was stupid, but it was totally Jackson."

Ivy walks over to Alex throwing stuff into a bed pan, "Hey."

"You here to yell at me and tell me how much of a bad person I am? Well, grab a number," he doesn't look at her.

"No, I'm here to say that while I don't agree with the reason why, I agree with the action," Ivy sits on the bed.

He doesn't say anything but looks at her. Ivy sighs, "Remember, I had to make a similar decision regarding a colleague and a patient. I made the same choice you did. Just know, I'm in your corner."

She leaves him to think and goes over to Mark and looks over his shoulder at the game he's playing.

*Owens POV*

Little Grey walks in as we are watching the news, "Still nobody? Oh, their families are going crazy. What is taking so long?"

"Well, fishing 200 people out of the water is slow business. You want to play Angry Birds?" Sloan asks, holding his game out to her, except Little Shepherd takes it.

"They'll do triage at the waterfront. It takes time. Actually, if they're taking this long, there's going to be-" I'm cut off by Ivy.

"A lot of hypothermia which means we need warm blankets, heated lamps, and heated I.V. fluids. April, come help?" She asks Kepner, never one to leave others out.

They head off to get those things as Mark asks, "You post chief resident yet?"

I shake my head, "Uh, no. Not yet."

"Whats the holdup?" Mark asks.

Torres rolls in, "The suspense ain't killing me. It's gonna be Ivy."

Arizona argues, "Well, I thought Karev made a great play for it. A plane full of orphans-thats pretty impressive."

Torres stops her, "Ah, he's already decided. You don't have to lobby for your boy. Plus, Shepherd has the trust of all her colleagues, is the top resident, has excellent organization skills. I mean, he'd be a fool to go with anyone else."

"Shes right. Ivy has it in the bag," Sloan adds.

○○○○*Original POV*

Ivy leans against the nurses station, drumming her fingers as April suggests, "Maybe we should put some I.V. fluids in the heater to warm them up?"

"No. "

"But if people have been in the water for that long-" she continues.

"Apes-" Ivy starts.

She interrupts, "But if we just-"

Mark cuts her off, "No one's coming. If it's taking this long, nobody survived."

Ivy sighs, moving to sit next to Mark. She lays her head on his shoulder. She feels a hand on her shoulder, looking up, she sees its Jackson. Offering his support in this small way.

Ivy stands next to April as Webber address everyone, "Emergency services has begun identifying bodies. They've given us a list. The airline reps are on their way. We've got social workers here and more coming. It's a long list. Each of you have families to inform."

They are handed names as Dr. Perkins says, "So, uh, please be outside the cafeteria in exactly one hour. You'll call one family at a time. And you'll be assigned a room to take them to and deliver the news. It's gonna be a... a long day."

"Thats it."

Everyone starts dispersing as Owen makes his way to the board a pins a paper stating:

Ivy Shepherd, M.D.

Ivy smiles. She did it. She's chief resident. Meredith walks away, not saying anything to her sister-on-law. Alex goes up to her, "Congratulations. You deserve it more than anyone."

"Thank you, Dr. Karev," Ivy nods.

Ivy feels arms wrap around. She looks down and see a head of red hair, "Congratulations! You deserve it!"

"Thanks Apes, now, let's go tell families. And then I need to figure out how I have to deal with the tension between Alex, Meredith, and Cristina," Ivy sighs, dragging April with her to the cafeteria.
