Another day began and as soon as it was Morning, Aera's Archers met Concordia in the Desert.
"Goodmorning Lady Concordia" Aera's Archers greeted.
"Goodmorning, I hope you are all well rested because today I'll be teaching you more about the Aura Of Lightning, it's applications and how to sharpen it" Concordia said.
"We're ready to learn" Mimi said.
"To begin, I'll have to inform you about the three types of Memory inherent in Living Beings as well as the two types of Natural Motion exhibited by these Living Beings" Concordia said.
"We're listening" an Archer called Mei said.
"All Living Beings possess some form of Memory that enables them to learn from their environment, various Survival Stratagems and thus evolve. Different Living Organisms possess different combinations regarding the Three Types Of Memory however I daresay only Humans possess all Three Types Of Memory" Concordia said.
"What are these three types of Memory?" Mei asked.
"The First is Sensory Memory, the Second is Motor Memory and the third is Cognitive Memory" Concordia said.
"Could you explain them in detail?" Mei asked.
"Sensory Memory is the first type of Memory and is named as such due to its direct relation to the Senses. It primarily exists to collect external stimuli from the environment and assign a sort of Mark to that Stimuli. It's primarily the reason older Living Beings, both Animal and Human, are naturally more cautious than their younger relatives. Basically, Sensory Memory collects external stimuli and associates it with multiple variables such as feelings of Safety and Danger and thus triggers an Emotional Response to External Stimuli. You could say Sensory Memory goes hand in hand with Emotional Response. It's the reason also for our Preferences and Dislikes" Concordia explained.
"I see, so this is the kind of Memory that allows us to differentiate a Safe Environment from a Dangerous One" Mei realized.
"That's true" Concordia said.
"What about Motor Memory?" Mimi asked.
"Motor Memory is primarily associated with Motion. It exists to allow Living Beings to gather experience regarding how to effectively navigate their Environments. It includes things like the ability to Walk, Talk and Eat and is the reason we don't usually forget how to perform these actions. Different Living Organisms have different Degrees Of Mastery over their Movements depending on how developed their Motor Memory is and how complex it is to navigate their Environments. It is also the reason for the varying degrees of Combat Ability in different Living Organisms. Motor Memory as I explained earlier exists to grant a Living Organism the ability to effectively navigate their Environment specifically for the purposes of Survival" Concordia explained.
"That leaves us with Cognitive Memory" Mei said.
"Unlike the first two types of Memory which are primarily instinctual in nature and mostly exhibited by animals, Cognitive Memory is Intellectual in nature and revolves around the ability not only to absorb stimuli from the environment and react to it but also to make conscious decisions regarding the stimuli gathered from one's Environment. This trait is unique only to Humans and Spiritual Beings and involves the ability to recall and assign meaning to events as well as to reason and understand the purposes behind various phenomena" Concordia explained.
"I see, so Sensory Memory primarily deals with collecting stimuli from the environment and assigning an emotional response to that stimuli, Motor Memory deals with the ability to navigate one's environment for the purposes of Survival and Cognitive Memory exists to allow Living Beings to reason and come to an understanding of the purposes behind various phenomena" Mei realized.
"Exactly, now the reason I had to mention these Three Types Of Memory is tied to the fact that the strength of a Living Being's Lightning Aura is predominantly tied to how developed these Three Types of Memory within them are" Concordia said.
"I see" Mimi said.
"I already partially trained your Sensory Memory when I had you increase your Sensitivity to Wind and as Humans you are naturally attuned to Cognitive Memory. Cognitive Memory for the most parts can be trained by performing intellectual tasks and tasks that require some degree of reasoning. I will focus mostly on Motor Memory which brings me to the Two Types Of Motion primarily exhibited by Living Beings" Concordia said.
"The Two Types Of Motion exhibited by Living Beings?" Mimi wondered.
"This shouldn't be new to you as you've already experienced them in one way or another. The first is predominantly referred to as Controlled Motion and the second is primarily referred to as Reflexive Motion" Concordia said.
"Controlled and Reflexive Motion?" Mimi mused.
"Controlled Motion as the name suggests is motion executed by a Living Being through conscious effort and is primarily learned through the Living Being's interactions with its environment. It involves as I mentioned earlier tasks such as the ability to Walk, Talk and Eat as well as the ability to learn various tasks associated with one's Trade. Different Living Beings exhibit Controlled Motion to different Degrees depending on their Biological Structure and build. Even amongst Humans, the Degrees Of Controlled Motion differ depending on the Tasks they excel at or the Trades they belong to" Concordia explained.
"I see. What about Reflexive Motion?" Mimi asked.
"With regards to Reflexive Motion, there are two predominant types of Reflexive Motion. The first is commonly referred to as Inherent Reflexive Motion and the second is commonly referred to as Acquired Reflexive Motion" Concordia said.
"Inherent and Acquired Reflexive Motion. Would you care to explain them?" Mei asked.
"Inherent Reflexive Motion is primarily exhibited by Living Beings as a function of Biology and mostly occurs at a subconscious level. In other words, it primarily exists as a result of a Biological Necessity. In other words, Living Beings acquire this skill primarily to survive and live and without it, they would immediately perish. It includes such functions as the beating of the Heart and the functions of the Circulatory System, the functions of the Nervous System, the pangs of Hunger and the functions of the Digestive System, the ability to breathe and the functions of the Respiratory System. These functions cannot for the most parts be consciously triggered by Living Beings and they cannot naturally be turned off by the Living Being to which they belong. A Deviation from the Normal Function of an Inherent Reflexive Ability naturally results in the Living Organism falling either into a Diseased or Deathly State" Concordia explained.
"What about Acquired Reflexive Motion?" Mei asked.
"Acquired Reflexive Motion is a product of Mastery over a specific task. In other words, when a Living Being performs a specific task repeatedly over a prolonged period of time, the task begins to require less and less conscious effort and attention until it reaches the point that the performance of the task occurs solely via an Environmental Trigger. A common example is the ability to evade an oncoming attack and to counter on reflex. It's basically a product of Mastery acquired by performing a task repeatedly until the task requires little to no attention to be performed" Concordia explained.
