Chapter 13: Austyn

A wail pierced the air, and Dr. Moses swaddled Austyn in a cloth. Dr. Moses snipped the umbilical cord.

“She’s here,” he said, placing her into Alayna’s arms.

“And she’s safe,” Alayna added. “The firstborn. She doesn’t need to sacrificed to Carsonites.”

Dr. Moses managed a smile, and said, “You were a mother to my daughters. I hope you enjoy yours.”

She clung to Austyn, and whispered her thank you.

“Protect her well,” Scion added as he walked into the room. “We don’t know how my kind and the younger race will react to humans being here.’

“Have you checked on Bekah recently?” Dr. Moses asked.

“She’s six centimeters last I checked.”

“SIX!?” Dr. Moses exclaimed.

He dashed for the door, and Alayna asked Scion to bring in Dannon. He nodded and was gone.

Wren darted outside the dome, and spoke into her implant.

“Send a message to Eklun and Maz,” she said. “Humans are here. On Akron. They’ve just given birth, which means the beginning of more humans. They live in a dome. There are a lot of them. The mother said something about Carsonites taking away firstborns. Not sure who the Carsonites are, but keep an eye on Maz Younger”

She sent the message and looked behind her at the dome. A high security door and walls stood between her and her employer: Scion.
