Day Five #2

Inis was keenly aware of how the defences of the area were very poor and without the understanding or cooperation of the others living there, it would be difficult to set up any kinds of preventive measures.

It was very easy for her own kind to walk into traps that were meant for intruders or to destroy what had been set up inside or outside of where they lived.

Their destructive tendencies were not so easily restrained and the measures Inis would take to protect them would do more harm than good.

Her own time and efforts would be wasted so she did not attempt to make the effort to set up traps with the materials she had gained.

Most of them were put towards creating weapons to arm those that were allied to her and for other tactical purposes.

Easy to place or assemble traps could be put to better use in all kinds of tactical situations outside of where they were living and could be used to catch some prey without having to spend more energy to search around and hunt.

With the recent battle the day before, there were always chances that other creatures could be drawn in her direction sooner or later.

They would have been looking to check out if the territory had any changes and would decide to move into the area so there would be disputes over the territories.

Inis, a group of Gremlins and a Satyress were digging in some places to create pits to fall into that had some pointed bones or sticks pointed upward.

There were a couple of other more complex traps that had been made with wood and bones that were sticking out from some bushes or trees that would cut those that passed by and there were some that would be triggered by someone stepping on something or walking through.

All kinds of deadly traps were set up and could suddenly come crashing down onto them or swing around to hit them.

Some were blunt but others had some areas that had sharp bones sticking out of them to increase the chances of there being a lethal injury.

Inis did not try to place any after cleaning up the area of the dead bodies due to there being a slight chance there would be more groups being drawn in by the fresh scent of blood.

She did not wish to take the risk to remain in the open where she could be attacked when her attention was on assembling the traps or placing them so she spent some of her time back in the cave doing a lot of the preparation for the next day.

If they were placed further away then there was less chances that those of her own kind would fall into them first.

Inis finished assembling a hanging spiked log that was being held up by some pulleys and simple mechanisms made from the bones and wood.

If something stepped in a certain spot then it would cause a series of events that would lead to the log being released from where it was held and it would swing down.

Inis looked towards Xeni after it was securely in place. "Keep following behind me… do not step anywhere else."

They had been busy working on many traps around where they lived and most of the day passed but Inis showed no signs of wishing to rest.

Xeni looked over curiously and asked. "So what was it that you wanted me to do?"

Inis replied right away. "I need you to use your races unique talents to detect resources or potential enemies."

There were many untapped resources and undiscovered enemies lurking around the forest but not every one of them could be detected by Inis.

There was a limit to how much she could utilise a lot of her more supernatural abilities and she could only detect certain types of energies that were related to her own affinity.

Nature was her own affinity so she could get a grasp of the various things growing around her and would be able to figure out if they were poisonous, had medicinal effects or could be used to boost the bodies power.

Certain creatures like the Treants would contain similar energies so it would be easier for Xeni to identify them if they were near her.

Even if a special type of fruit was reaching maturity somewhere close by, Xeni possessed enough of an ability to find it if it was within a certain range.

Those resources would be far more compatible with Xeni but anything that could be used would be put to use by Inis to overcome the dangers ahead.

Eating herbs, energy cores, fruits or special energy resources would provide a much better quality and quantity of aether energy than eating the flesh of other creatures.

There were resources like ores or crystals that contained energy within them that were found in dungeons then were turned into artefacts or resources to power technology so those types of things should be a good alternative resource for her and those that followed her but she did not have a more direct way to detect them.

The humans of the dungeon era called those resources magic stones or magic ores but the names could have changed over the time that had passed.

Whether she could eat them in her current state or power level was unknown and it may not be possible unless they were of a much lower quality.

It was not like she could gain a large supply all of a sudden to test out if she could consume them and refine that energy so she had to settle with more naturally grown resources that came from her surroundings.

With a natural detector with her, that would be made much easier.

They went around the traps and deeper into the forest then Xeni pointed towards an area where there was a large tree. "There could be something there but it is not that strong."

Inis shrugged. "It is better than nothing."
