Jaxon
I gripped the steering wheel tightly, and it burned the edges of my palms. Part of me wanted to go home and make sure Sara stayed home and was keeping out of trouble. I knew I couldn’t control her. She wasn’t a prisoner and she had a will of her own. I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe it would have been better to let her go with me. It would be harder to focus on what I was doing, but I’d know where she was and how to keep her safe. I groaned out loud in frustration.
I picked up my cell phone and dialed quickly. I kept it on speaker phone and stared at the road. I stared so hard my vision seemed almost blurry in the hot light.
"Yes, boss?" Max answered from the other end. His voice was scratchy and already irritated. I couldn’t help but feel curious as to what he was doing. I pushed those questions aside. I needed to focus on what I was doing.
