“Sophie, I’m so impressed with your progress,” I tell my friend, “You were amazing with those spells! How do you feel? Are you still doing ok with all of this?” 


Sophie and I are on our second lesson, and she has been performing incredibly well in casting magical defense spells. We went slowly at first, as I knew she was nervous and I didn’t want to overwhelm her. But as we progressed through the lesson and she gained confidence, she was able to deflect some of my more advanced spells with no problem at all. 


“I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but I am,” she replies with a grin, “Now I’m not even sure what I was so afraid of! This is fun! And I love knowing that there’s a way to defend myself that DOESN’T always include yelling for help and praying that somebody shows up quickly!”
