The king was exuding a cold temperament that shunned people from talking or looking him directly in the eyes.

His eyes scanned the room as though looking for a target to unleash his wrath. Everyone lowered their heads to avoid meeting his eyes. They were all terrified of him.

The scroll with the regal decree sentencing Adnan to death for killing Soren was picked up by Javier's legal advisor and set on fire.

Everyone thought they were doing the king a favor by ridding him of his lover's killer but they were wrong. The king was furious at them for taking a step to punish Adnan. Which was confusing but not so much as seeing the man on the throne looking unfazed by Soren's death.
