Chapter 209: Well, Am I Cancelled Yet? (4)

3rd Person POV

It took a while, but Perseus arrived at the fortress that they erected just for this occasion, it was faster than they expected as they expected his investigation to take days, and to think he found their location so quickly, all of them believed that Perseus places some sort of tracking magic on the little boy.

Perseus arrived in a calmer mood than they expected and got to the center where they were holding 'Vincent' with a knife by the throat and several mages nearby ready to shoot out their spells at a moment's notice.

"Perseus, surrender your weapons along with yourself to us, and we'll let your brother go." Sheila said through a magic crystal that loudly amplified her voice to fill the whole site

"I recognize that voice, wassup, ugly bitch." Perseus retorted with a smile on his face "Oh man, I have not seen you in a long time, where are ya?"

"As arrogance as the rumors say, your confidence sure never went down."

"Well, I'm gonna kill ya after this, so let's just make this quick."

"Surrender yourselves, don't make me repeat myself all over again." She warned "Surrender yourselves and we will leave your little brother alone, we'll even send him back through a teleportation array set up by the some of the best spatial mages."

"For what? To use him as some sort of messenger, no thanks."

"Kill the little boy." Sheila ordered coldly

The person holding 'Vincent' by the throat then hesitated and froze by the order, he was hired to only hold Vincent hostage knowing that Perseus would turn himself over. Killing children was not something that they were hired to do.

"Kill him!" Sheila shouted over and over

Leilah looked around to gauge the strength of their opponents, one in particular stand out, an 8-star mage, but what stands out about him was that he was the weakest 8-star she's seen, he is a man about 180cm tall, looked to be in his early 40s, has silver blond hair, dark blue eyes.

The mana of the man isn't as compact tightly in his body, it's super loose, a sign of a weak foundation and lack of practice.

Leilah POV

The guy holding Ruka is freezing up, even the others in this fortress are questioning Sheila, even soldiers invading other territories are usually told to spare children in their path, and no matter how cold blooded this mercenary is, he has a line he will not cross.

This hesitation should help us a bit, I then send out a wave of detection magic, and sure enough, several magic crystals are spectating us right now, we ae being watched, and Sheila is the only one stupid enough to reveal her own identity. I then gave Perseus a nod which he understood.

Sheila is used as the face of this operation due to her need for attention and credit, I doubt that she knows everyone who's sponsoring these several groups of mercenaries. They're all individually expensive, even with some sort of bulk discount...I'm really starting to think more and more like Perseus, I want to spend more time with him, but I should start distracting him more or else his way of thinking will spill onto me as well.

Anyway, it's not too worrying for me, but the problem is that we will most likely not find out every mastermind behind this, and the biggest problem is the prince and Sheila, we can't really kill them.

First, they have children, but they are rumored to raise their children to marry into other families anyway, so they'll probably be raised better being raised by their relatives, but killing Sheila and that prince might give the northern continent enough excuses to start a war, though their allies will not join in initially, if they are losing, they will ask for help from their alliance.

Well, there is one person here who can kill the 2, that is Lilith. But it depends on her and whether she wants to or not. Humans can't recklessly start an official war yet with how weak the heroes are, but...the human race would support their decision to start the war.

"Do it!" Sheila scream and the mage gave in and slid his knife

But the knife didn't even do any damage, only breaking the illusion and showing everyone that Ruka was the one in the person's arms, the knife is too weak to hurt her, and in that moment of shock, I used the shadows to grab the mage's head and pull it towards the ground, I smashed it quickly, several times and he died before having a chance to respond.

"What's with the hesitation?" Ruka asked as she summoned a storm of blue petals and shoot them out

The blue petals pierced through the mages like daggers and flew after the rest, I forcefully pulled the mage away from their hiding spots and gathered them in once squad together in front of us where Lilith shoots a lightning bolt the moment they came out of the shadows, killings quite f few of them instantly without them having a chance to defend themselves.

"Luckily they activated the spatial disruption barrier for us, they can't teleport out now." Perseus joked "We weren't stuck here with them, but rather, more like they're stuck here with us."

"Yeah, should have said, they are now prey and we are now the predator." Lilith grumbled "Sounds better that way."

"Fine, I love being the predator...ok, woah, my brain just caught up with what I've said and that sounds kinda mad." Perseus then shoots a fireball at the group of mages I made appear in front of us earlier to put them down "Please don't give me that 'I'll love you no matter look.'"

"Hey, you said it, you love being a predator." Lilith chuckled before disappearing to kill the others

"Well, the fact that we still exist means that we're not canceled yet, so let's kill these guys to make up for it." Perseus sigh
