Chapter 414: Blackmailed (2)

Perseus POV

Ok, everything is going well, the 2 intervened and complained about some noises, long story short, Rolan is going to meet up with his buddies for the disposal. Without wasting another moment, I made a hasty exit from the inn to follow Rolan.

The night was shrouded in darkness as I trailed Rolan to a desolate meeting point on the outskirts of the town. There, beneath the cover of the night sky, I watched as Rolan met with his partner in crime, Jamie. The two of them exchanged a nod, and it was clear that this wasn't their first time, quite disgusting really.

In Rolan's grip, I could see the unfortunate female demon, still somewhat alive, her eyes filled with fear and desperation. Her struggle for survival was evident, and I couldn't stand by and allow her to meet a gruesome fate...fuck, I could fuck up this whole mission by revealing myself, but whatever.

I can't let Mark and Terrence help me outright, I can trust them and I can use them since they know a lot of inside information. So I'm gonna have to do this solo.

"Yo, Rolan, what's up?" I greeted him as I revealed myself.

"You!" He responded

"You're gonna need to answer for your actions, Rolan. What you've been doing is horrible, and you will face the consequences, so turn yourself in man."

"Consequences? You have no idea what you're getting yourself into, meddling in things that don't concern you."

"I don't care what I'm getting myself into, Rolan. What you've been involved in is unforgivable. Lives are at stake here, and I won't stand by and let this continue. Turning yourself in is the only way to begin making things right."

My eyes were immediately drawn to the injured female demon. She was huddled on the ground, her body covered in tattered and dirty rags, which revealed only glimpses of her injuries.

Her skin was a deep shade of crimson, hiding most of her cuts and bruises, her long hair the color of midnight, and her tail was now cut and bleeding profusely.

The demon's eyes were wide with terror, reflecting the torment she had endured. Her once-lustrous eyes, now clouded with fear darted around, her eyes were pleading with me to get out of there. She doesn't recognize who I am and is more scared for me than herself...

I then teleported her right next to me, with a closer look, it was even worse, she was missing her teeth, and her right eye was also not that responsive. My use of magic just now might have alerted the others, but that's fine, this is just shit.

"You're a hero man, you should be seeking and dishing out justice, not do this."

"You always were a naive one, weren't you? You think you can just waltz in here and preach about justice as if it's that simple. These demons are nothing but commodities, tools for those who can wield their power. I'm merely playing the game by the rules that exist." he replied with no remorse at all.

"There's a difference between playing a game and exploiting others for your own gain. These demons also have feelings, thoughts, and the right to live free from enslavement. It's not a game, Rolan, it's a matter of basic decency to treat others as equal."

"Decency? In a world where demons and humans coexist, where the line between good and evil blurs? Your morals are dumb, you stupid half-demon. I don't owe you any explanation for my actions, and I won't just turn myself in."

"I'm giving you a chance Rolan, turn yourself in, tell the others what you did, and I'll spare your life."

"YOU?! SPARE MY LIFE?! HAhahahaha." he laughed, "That's funny! Jamie, laugh at that idiot! Him, sparing me?! With every hero in one place?!"

"I got evidence, Rolan, I have lots of it, even if I don't kill you today, you'll lose a lot of trust."

"You, a half-demon, think you can challenge me? Don't forget who I am, and more importantly, don't forget what you are. No one is going to believe you over me. I'm a renowned hero, and heroes always have their loyal supporters.

"Oh, my dear friend, you don't understand." he said with a smirk, "I can easily frame you for my 'crimes'. I have connections, allies, and the reputation to make it happen. Who do you think they'll believe? A hero like me or a half-demon who's interfering with matters beyond their understanding?"

"Are you seriously blackmailing me?"

Friend? Is this guy fucking serious? Killing his family wasn't a wrong move, after all, they were all just lunatics.

"There is no morality in this world, my friend." He addressed me arrogantly, "Only power and the will to use it. I've chosen my path, and it doesn't include any sentimentality. This is your last chance to walk away, half-demon. I can ruin you, and no one will lift a finger to help you."

"Rolan, I won't be blackmailed into silence, you know that it won't work, at least, not on me. Even if no one believes me, I will make sure that you face consequences."

"Oh, how admirable," he responded, his voice laced with mockery. "But remember, my dear half-demon friend, determination alone won't save you. The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and not everyone values demons as much as you do. Besides...you people don't deserve justice, you don't even deserve rights."

Don't deserve rights, huh...

"Besides, you use others for your own personal gain, why can't I do it?" he said with a mixture of a mocking and questioning tone, "If anything, my actions are more justified, since when do demons deserve equality? When-"

"I'll come for you, stay hidden." I instructed the injured person and teleported her away.

I couldn't let him finish that sentence...the heroes can face the demon lord without Rolan, he's the weakest anyway, and they've already run out of use for him, I might as well kill him then.

The air crackled with electricity, and a deafening roar of thunder echoed through the night. A powerful, radiant lightning bolt, like a jagged spear of pure energy, materialized with a blinding flash.

It struck him and I can see that it didn't really have that much of an effect on him, but his pals are dead, that's more than enough for him to know that I'm serious.
