CHAPTER EIGHTY ONE
I’m standing in a field when I open my eyes.
The tall grass is nearly up to my knees, daisies and dandelions swing with the soft breeze.
I don't know where I am but I feel content.
There's nothing to see for miles except open fields and I let out a long breath. A breath I seem to have been holding for so long.
I just want to stay here.
And then I hear a cry.
“Mama!”
I turned around, almost instinctively recognizing the voice even though I've never heard it before.
My eyes fall on a little boy, more than half his body concealed by the grass as he runs towards me. His silver hair and golden eyes tell me who he is.
My hands go to my stomach as I gaze at his happy face, those chubby cheeks which are flushed.
This can’t be real, I think to myself.
That’s my child. Mine and Lucas’s.
But -
