CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE
“What?!”
I nearly jump out of my skin.
“The monsters from inside the forest?!”
The boy makes a sad face, “You don’t like them? But they’re a part of me. Does that mean you don’t like me?”
He tilts his head and I feel the temperature drop around us. There’s more meaning to his question and I’m not stupid. He may look like a child but he is far more dangerous.
And I have a feeling that being inside a dream isn’t going to offer me any protection.
“I don’t dislike you,” I say, slowly, my eyes are on the crazily flickering shadows. “But you said they were monsters who wanted to hurt me and now you’re saying something else. So, I’m a little concerned.”
He snaps back to normal almost immediately, beaming, “Oh! Yeah, they do want to hurt you but they can’t. I won’t let them. I’ll never let anything hurt you, Isabel. You’re mine.”
My blood curdles in cold fear at the darkly possessive edge to his tone.
