CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY TWO
Damien is by my side, gripping my hand.
Caleb does the same and I feel a cool rush of healing energy move through me.
But it doesn’t work.
“If it’s a sealing spell,” I gasp through the pain. “Why is it hurting?”
I look at Caleb desperately, “Spells don’t malfunction, right?!”
“They shouldn’t,” he mutters, trying to send more healing energy through me.
“Stop,” I shake my head, forcing myself to breathe past the pain. “Give me a few minutes.”
It’s getting more manageable as the minutes press on. I can hear the voices around me but I mute them about, focusing on the pain and the pressure in my hand.
Slowly, and steadily, it ebbs away, and I feel my knees crumple.
Damien catches me, letting me lean on him, “Isabel.”
“Just a few more minutes,” I try to keep my voice steady, not wanting to upset him even more but I can hear the waver in my voice.
